

ARGYLE — The Argyle Orioles were tested by the Monticello Ponies, but the Orioles prevailed 3-1 in Six Rivers East volleyball on Thursday Oct. 2.
The Orioles went toe-to-toe with the Orioles, the No. 1 ranked team in Division 5 in the latest WVCA poll, in set one and got a hard-fought win 27-25 behind senior Kennadee Johnson, sophomore Audrianna Schraufnagel, and freshman Olivia Christen. The Orioles pulled away in the second set after a return error by the Ponies gave Argyle a 20-9 lead. A block kill by sophomore Claire Holmes and an ace by junior Brooke Wellnitz sealed the win for Argyle 25-10.
In set three, senior Kylie Butler shined as she got three straight kills to put Argyle ahead 14-13. Two more kills by Butler and an ace by sophomore Brynn Harris gave Argyle a 20-18 lead over the Ponies. With the score at 23-19, Butler scored an ace and Holmes got a kill to win the set 25-19.
The Orioles got off to a fast 7-0 start in set four as Wellnitz and Wonders each got a kill and Holmes had two aces. Butler had five kills in a stretch where the Orioles went from a 13-3 lead to an 18-4 lead. Wellnitz finished it off with a spike on a 50/50 ball to win set four for Argyle 25-12.
The Orioles improved to 20-1 overall with the win. Argyle (9-0 Six Rivers East) hosted Juda on Tuesday, Oct. 7 while Monticello (3-11, 0-5) played at Albany.
Pecatonica 3, Albany 0
BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica Vikings led from start to finish in a three set sweep over the Albany Comets, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 in Six Rivers East volleyball on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Senior Loretta Tisch had 12 kills, six aces, and 26 digs while senior Tatum Kurschner distributed 26 assists to lead the Vikings.
Pecatonica (11-5, 7-2) hosted Belmont in a Six Rivers Conference crossover match on Monday, Oct. 6, then hosted Riverdale in a nonconference match Oct. 7. Albany (2-11, 0-4) faced Monticello at home on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Edgerton 3, Brodhead 1
EDGERTON — The Brodhead Cardinals were hoping to gain some ground on the first-place Edgerton Crimson Tide in Rock Valley Conference, Rock Division. But on Thursday, Oct. 2, the Crimson Tide maintained their hold on first place with a win over the Cardinals in four sets, 25-13 25-17, 23-25, 25-23.
Senior Brynn Riesterer racked up 15 kills and four blocks for the Cardinals. Senior Gretchen Kammerer dished out 26 assists. Senior Addie Leifker had seven aces, and senior Allie Dahl contributed 26 digs.
Brodhead remains in second place in the RVC-Rock at 4-2. The Cardinals (20-8 overall) will hosted the Big Foot Chiefs in another RVC-Rock volleyball match on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
East Troy 3, Monroe 0
MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers hosted East Troy in an RVC-Valley match on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Monroe fought hard all three sets with over 20 ties across the match, but fell in the end 25-19, 25-18, 25-23.
Monroe (5-14, 2-4) hosted Clinton on Monday before having Delavan-Darien at home on Thursday, Oct. 9.
