Pecatonica Falls To Cambria-Friesland 7-5, Beats Monticello-Albany 12-1
The Pecatonica Vikings lost to the Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers, 7-5 in non-conference baseball on April 14 at Cambria-Friesland. The Hilltoppers scored four times in the first inning and never trailed. Cooper Schraepfer had two hits in four at-bats, including a double for the Vikings. Sophomore Ashton McNett started for the Vikings, getting four strikeouts. McNett also scored two runs. The Vikings battled back after trailing 7-1. In the sixth inning, the Vikings scored a run to make it 7-2. With three runs in the seventh, the Vikings closed to within 7-5, but came up short.
On April 15, the Vikings rolled past Monticello-Albany, 12-1 in Six Rivers action. The Vikings led 3-1 going into the fourth inning and erupted for nine runs. The Vikings (4-2, 3-1 Six Rivers) played a non-conference game against the Lincoln Academy at the Beloit Youth Complex on April 17.

Monticello-Albany’s Patchen Throws 1-Hitter Against ABH; Orioles Then Lose To Shullsburg-Benton
Monticello-Albany starting pitcher Tyler Patchen threw a six-inning one-hitter as the Space Stallions defeated the Orioles 10-0 in Six Rivers action on April 14. Patchen stuck out nine and walked two. He faced 21 batters in all. Monticello-Albany collected seven hits, six walks and four batters were hit by a pitch. Only three of their 10 runs were earned. Leon Parker was 2x3, drove in three and scored twice, while Nate Stokstad was 2x3 with an RBI. Tyler Constantini was 2x4 with a run, RBI and three steals. Jackson Berget had the only hit of the day for ABH, singling as a the second batter of the game on the first pitch he saw. Mitchell Johnsen had walked to open the contest. The two runners were left stranded at second and third following a two-out double steal.
Against Benton-Shullsburg on April 15, the Orioles led 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That’s when disaster struck. Shullsburg-Benton scored seven runs in the frame to go ahead by six. ABH could only get one run back in the top of the sixth, but Shullsburg-Benton added two more in the bottom of the six for insurance. Mitchell Johnsen was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and five walks through 4 1/2 innings. Trent Bidlingmair came on in the fifth and allowed four runs to score in 1 2/3 innings of work. At the plate, Bidlingmair and Weston Ganshert each had a double. Ganshert was hit by a pitch and drove in two runs. Deacon Kuebli was 3x3 out of the 9-hole with two RBIs, two steals and a run scored. New Glarus Wins Over Lake Mills 10-6
The New Glarus Glarner Knights picked up a non-conference win over the Lake Mills L-Cats, 10-6 on April 15. Catcher Ashlin Mihlbauer, right fielder Ethan Colstad, and center fielder Kamm Nehmer each had two RBIs. First baseman Braden Rear got on base three times with two base hits, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. New Glarus collected 16 hits in the game. Senior Patrick Alt started for the Glarner Knights and pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits. Sophomore Nolan Julseth scored a run, drove in a run, and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings without allowing a hit. New Glarus (5-2, 1-1 Capitol South) will host the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in league play on April 22.
Darlington Loses To Iowa-Grant 4-2
The Darlington Redbirds had 14 batters reach base, but scored only two runs in a 4-2 loss to the Iowa-Grant Panthers in SWAL conference baseball on April 15 at Livingston. Iowa-Grant led 4-0 after three innings and made it stand up against Darlington starting pitcher Dante Glendenning. Glendenning gave up just one earned run while striking out five and walking three batters. Right fielder Landon Edgerton had two hits, including a double and drove in both runs for the Redbirds. Catcher Sloan Glendenning went 3x3 while 3rd baseman Maddox Goebel and left fielder Talan Crist both went 2x4. With the loss, the Redbirds dropped to 1-3 in the SWAL conference and 2-6 overall. Darlington hosted Southwestern in a SWAL conference game on April 17.
Four-Run Seventh Has Columbus Shoots Past Belleville 6-3
Belleville scored three runs in the first inning and led through six frames in a Capitol Conference game April 15. Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Columbus scored plated four runs as Belleville starting pitcher Austin McKinley was attempting to throw a complete game. Trei Udelhoven replaced McKinley to get the final out, but not before allowing a hit and an unearned run. McKinley’s pitching line ended after 6 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits, two walks and five runs (four earned) on 83 pitches. Isaac McKinley was 2x4 at the plate, while Logan Derkey had a double and two RBIs. Owen Griffin stile two bases and scored as a pinch runner.
