BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica Vikings closed the regular season with a win over the Monticello Ponies on Feb. 27 and opened the post season with a 50-32 win over the Ponies in a regional quarterfinal on March 4.
The Vikings were led by sophomore Luke Leonard with 13 points. Sophomore Griffin Noll tacked on 12 points and junior Cohlman Schlimgen scored 10 for the Vikings.
Monticello was paced by senior Alex Roe with 15 points. The Vikings took advantage of 17 Monticello turnovers to score 14 points.
Pecatonica, seeded No. 7, faced No. 2 seed Abundant Life Christian in Madison on Friday Mar. 7 in the regional semifinal.
Belleville 74, Westby 63
BELLEVILLE — The Belleville Wildcats earned their third straight win with a victory over the Westby Norsemen on in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal March 4.
Four players scored in double figures and combined to score 72 of the Wildcats’ 74 points. Junior Jackson Scholey and senior Adam Cann each scored 20 points while senior Samuel Arndt scored 17 points and senior Brendan Pawloski added 15 points.
No. 10 seed Westby ends their season at 7-18. Belleville, a No. 7 seed, improved to 10-15 with the win.
Belleville advanced to face No. 2 seed Darlington in the regional semifinal on March 7. The winner plays in the regional championship game at 7 p.m. on March 8.
Shullsburg 43, Albany 38
ALBANY — The No. 9 seeded Shullsburg Miners came from behind to beat the No. 8 seeded Albany Comets in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal March 4.
Albany (11-14) led at halftime, 22-18, but was held to 16 points in the second half. Sophomore Ty Durtschi led the Comets with 14 points and senior Kaden Zurfluh added 10 points for Albany, which ends its season at 11-14.
The Miners capitalized on 16 turnovers by the Comets, leading to 11 points. Shullsburg (11-14) was scheduled to face No. 1 seed Southwestern in the regional semifinal on Friday March 7.
Argyle 66, St. Ambrose Academy 63
ARGYLE — The Argyle Orioles edged St. Ambrose Academy of Madison, 66-63 in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal March 4.
The Orioles trailed 33-32 at halftime, but rallied in the second half to knock off St. Ambrose in the opening round of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs.
Junior Jeremiah Collins sparked the offense in the first half for Argyle, hitting multiple key three-pointers and sending a blocked shot soaring out of bounds into the arms of a cheerleader, sending the home fans off their seats and into a tizzy.
The St. Ambrose Guardians, a No. 14 seed, ended its season 3-22.
Argyle improves to 18-7 and were set to host Belmont on March 7. The winner would move on to the regional final March 8 against either Pecatonica or Abundant Life Christian.
Brodhead 86, Viroqua 63
BRODHEAD — The Brodhead Cardinals picked a good time to get their third straight win, this time over the No. 10 seed Viroqua Blackhawks in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal March 4.
Senior Cullen Walker put up 35 points and senior Brody Riese had 27 points to lead the way for the No. 7 seed Cardinals. Junior Sam Searls added 15 points for Brodhead (12-13).
With the win, the Cardinals advanced to the regional semifinal on March 7 at Wisconsin Dells. The winner of that game plays for the regional championship on March 8.
Barneveld 52, Black Hawk 46
BARNEVELD — The Black Hawk Warriors lost to the Barneveld Golden Eagles, 52-46 in the WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal March 4.
The Warriors were the No. 13 seed, finished second to last in the Six Rivers East and ended their season 3-21.
Barneveld, the No. 4 seed and Six Rivers East champion, improved their record to 19-6 and were set to play Fall River in the regional semifinal March 7 at Barneveld.
Belmont 78, Juda 46
BELMONT — The Braves, a No. 6 seed, defeated the No. 11 seed Juda Panthers, 78-46, at Belmont on March 4 in the regional quarterfinal.
