Pec holds on vs. Argyle; Juda nets first win

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica Vikings nearly blew an 11-point second half lead but held off rival Argyle 43-42 Feb. 14. 

The Vikings (15-5, 9-2 Six Rivers East) slowly built a 24-13 lead at halftime, but could only score 19 in the second half, which allowed the Orioles (6-11, 1-8) to get back into the game.

Jaden Hendrickson scored 14 to lead the way for Pecatonica, while Carter Ruegsegger scored nine and Colton Schraepfer had seven.


Juda 40, Argyle 32

JUDA — The Panthers picked up their first win of the year Feb. 16.

Juda led Argyle 21-12 at halftime thanks to seven points from Dominic Taylor and five from Dogukan Yetgin. 

Taylor finished with 11 points, while Yetgin had nine and Gavin Kammerer eight. Gavin Johnson led Argyle with 12 points and Clay Ritschard finished with nine.

Both teams hit five 3-pointers in the game. Argyle was just 3 of 8 from the free throw line while Juda was 7-for-13. Juda committed just one foul in the first half and five in the game, while Argyle had 10 in the second half and 16 for the contest.


Barneveld 55, Black Hawk 38

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors hopes of a conference title were dashed Feb. 16. The Eagles led 31-20 at the break and then added to their lead in the second half.

Kyle Lovelace led Black Hawk with 11 points, while Colby Argall had 10. Conner Meyer had eight.

Malcolm Reed led all scorers with 18 for Barneveld, and teammate Dayne Evans scored 14.


Barneveld 81, Monticello 60

BARNEVELD — The Ponies kept pace with conference-leading Barneveld in the first half of their game Feb. 14. The two teams went into halftime tied at 30. In the second half, the Eagles outscored Monticello by 21.

Peter Gustafson led Monticello with 20 points, while Jeffrey Ace had 19 and Simon Blohowiak and Devin Holtz each had seven.

Evans led Barneveld with 20 points and Reed had 18.


Monticello 64, Palmyra-Eagle 54

PALMYRA — The Ponies jumped out to a 17-point lead at halftime and didn’t give in during the second half of their nonconference game Feb. 15.

Four Monticello players finished in double figures: Gustafson (16), Holtz (11), Ace (12) and Reece Rufer (14).

The Ponies hit eight 3s and were 24 of 33 from the free throw line. Palmyra-Eagle was 11-for-15 from the line and just 3 of 18 from beyond the arc.


New Glarus 82, Wisconsin Heights 77

MAZOMANIE — The Glarner Knights capped the Capitol South title with a thrilling win against the Vanguards Feb. 15.

After trailing 36-31 at halftime, New Glarus came out firing in the second half and outscored Wisconsin Heights 51-41 over the final 18 minutes.

Jaden Kreklow scored 24 to lead the Knights, with teammate Trevor Gassman scoring 21 and Mason Martinson and Zach Feller each adding 12 points.

De’Shawn Barsness led the Vanguards with 29 points.


Belleville 69, Albany 43

BELLEVILLE — Austin Fahey had 22 points to lead the Wildcats, which had 12 players score in the game.

The two teams were squared away at 23 at halftime, but Belleville outscored the Comets 43-20 over the game’s final 18 minutes.

Corbin Kelley led Albany with 16 points, while Josh Dahl had 15 and Jamison Stauffacher had nine.

In other area scores, Whitewater knocked off Brodhead 71-49 Feb. 14. The next night, Brodhead lost to Beloit Turner 80-42 after getting outscored by 32 in the second half. Darlington capped a conference championship with a 47-31 win over Southwestern Feb. 15.
