BELMONT — The Vikings saw their magical postseason run come to an end 4-0 in a WIAA Division 5 sectional championship June 2 against Six Rivers East rival Barneveld. It was the third time this season the Eagles defeated Blanchardville.

Daelynn Rhoades struck out 11 and allowed just one hit and two walks to earn the win for Barneveld. At the plate, Nicole Fahey and Bella Sullivan had two hits each for Barneveld, with Sullivan swiping three bases and scoring twice.

Chloe Schraepfer took the loss for Pecatonica, striking out six while allowing six hits, a walk and four runs (three earned). She also had the team’s lone hit and walked in another plate appearance.

Barneveld scored its first run in the bottom of the second. A single by Fahey led off the inning, then back-to-back errors by the Vikings put runners on the corners with no outs. Rhoades then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the run. Schraepfer got out of the inning by skuttling a bunt attempt and then tossing a 3-pitch looking strikeout to end the frame.

In the third, Fahey doubled Sullivan with two outs to make it 2-0. The score stayed the same until the fifth. With two outs, Hayden Swenson singled to left to drive in a pair of insurance runs.

Pecatonica ends the year 12-11 overall, but made a deep playoff run thanks to a 1-run win over Seneca, and victories against ranked teams such as Highland and Belmont.
