Panthers clip Comets; Rufer powers Ponies

ALBANY — Juda picked up its first Six Rivers East win of the season, knocking off Albany 42-41 in a nail-biter Jan. 14.

The Panthers, which trailed 22-18 at halftime, had balanced scoring up and down the lineup. Payton Johnson led Juda with 12 points, while Trent Anderson had 11 and Gavin Kammerer 10. Aaron Makos added seven points.

Luke Johnson led Albany with 11 points, while Javon Ferguson had 10 and Ben Grosz added nine.

Juda was 13 of 17 from the charity stripe and hit three 3-pointers. The Comets shot just two free throws in the game — both in the first quarter. Albany also hit six 3s, with Grosz and Johnson each hitting three.


Monticello 64, Black Hawk 50

SOUTH WAYNE — Reece Rufer scored a career-high 31 points, carrying the No. 3-ranked Ponies to yet another Six Rivers East win Jan. 14.

Rufer scored his team’s first 16 points — all over the opening 12 minutes of the game.

Monticello (11-0, 5-0 Six Rivers East) now holds a two-game lead on Black Hawk (3-7, 3-2) in the conference race, with Barneveld (4-7, 4-1) sitting in second place.


Mineral Point 67, New Glarus 44

MINERAL POINT — The Glarner Knights gave up extended scoring runs in both halves in a nonconference loss to the Pointers Jan. 13.

Nathan Streiff had 19 points to lead New Glarus, with teammate Mason Martinson adding eight and Connor Siegenthaler six.

The Pointers, which led 36-21 at halftime, had four players in double figures: Liam Stumpf (14), Joah Filardo (14), Blaise Watters (13) and Justin Baehler (10).


Fennimore 76, Pecatonica 43

BLANCHARDVILLE — The ninth-ranked Eagles took care of the Vikings from the start. Fennimore went up 41-18 at halftime and never looked back in a Jan. 13 nonconference game.

Junior Adam Larson led all scorers with 34 points, including a 5 of 10 mark from beyond the arc. He also added eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Kellen Kenney had a double-double for Fennimore, scoring 12 points and adding 11 rebounds. Brady Larson added 12 points for the Eagles.

In other area action, Barneveld defeated Argyle 38-32 Jan. 14.
