BELMONT — The Pecatonica-Argyle Vikings got back to their winning ways in Week 5 by dominating Belmont from the start and winning 50-0.

Colton Schraepfer finished 5 of 8 passing for 113 yards and four touchdowns and added 82 rushing yards on eight carries to lead the Vikings (4-1, 3-1 Six Rivers). Zander Brunker had 76 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries and Miken Godfrey added two scores and 32 yards on six rushing attempts. Jaden Hendrickson had four catches for 66 yards and three scores and Gavin Johnson had a 45-yard touchdown catch.

Pecatonica-Argyle moved ahead 14-0 after the first quarter and plastered 28 more points onto the board in the second quarter. The Vikings scored another touchdown in the third while the running clock ticked away.

After an 8-6 loss to Black Hawk in Week 4, the Vikings face their next biggest challenge of the year this week as Potosi-Cassville (4-1, 4-1) comes to Blanchardville for Pecatonica’s homecoming game Saturday afternoon. 


New Glarus-Monticello 13, Belleville 9

BELLEVILLE — The Glarner Knights scored 13 points in the first quarter and the defense held on the rest of the way, handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season in Week Five.

Darris Schuett was six of 16 passing for 105 yards with a touchdown for New Glarus-Monticello, including a 44-yard connection with Nathan Streiff moments into the game. Patrick Craker had the second score for the Knights and finished with 54 yards rushing on 18 carries. 

Streiff would add to his stellar game with two picks on defense. The Knights tallied five interceptions of Wildcat quarterback Nate Mabis. Luke Kelly had 198 rushing yards on 15 carries for Belleville and Josh Grebel had four catches for 94 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter. Belleville (4-1, 0-1 Capitol South) got a fourth quarter field goal to trim the score, but New Glarus-Monticello (2-3, 1-0) was able to hang on. 

The Glarner Knights host Marshall (1-4, 0-0) in Week 6 while Belleville is at Waterloo (0-5, 0-1).

Black Hawk 64, Benton-Scales Mound 38

BENTON – Black Hawk had quite the scare in Week 5, trailing Benton-Scales Mound 24-22 moments before halftime. Rece Shelton caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Lovelace at the horn to give the Warriors the lead at the break, 30-24.

In the second half, Black Hawk (4-0, 3-0 Six Rivers) rolled, outscoring Benton-Scales Mound 34-14, including a 26-6 run in the third quarter.

Lovelace finished 5 of 13 passing for 53 yards and Shelton had three catches for 40 yards. Colby Argall was a monster on the ground, collecting 288 rushing yards on 32 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Lovelace had 61 yards on six carries and three scores, Shelton had three carries for 89 yards and Mitchell Quinn bulldozed his way for two touchdowns.

Black Hawk had 491 rushing yards on 53 carries, but fumbled the ball away three times. Benton-Scales Mound had just 120 rushing yards, led by Nick Jansen’s 108 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown. Quarterback Wyatt Bastian was 19 of 43 for 345 yards and five touchdowns, but the Warriors picked off three passes and recovered a fumble. Brooks Tiedeman had five catches for 201 yards and four touchdowns and Will Lawrence had five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Black Hawk hosts winless Belmont Saturday for homecoming. It is the 55th homecoming for the school and with Warren joining for a co-op in 2019, it will be the final singular homecoming for the program in the foreseeable future.


Fennimore 42, Darlington 8

FENNIMORE — The Redbirds fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime to the unbeaten No. 4-ranked team in Division 6.

Eagles quarterback Reid Larson finished 8 for 11 for 137 yards and a touchdown while adding 27 yards on the ground with another score. Zach Davis had 28 rushing yards on six carries and two touchdowns and Will Ahnen had one carry for a 47-yard score.

Kolbe Ubersox had 45 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead Darlington, while teammate Carson Evenstad had 40 yards on seven carries. Carter Lancaster was two of nine passing for a negative yard.

Darlington finished with 135 yards of offense in the game and had four fumbled with one lost, while Fennimore rolled to 247 yards of offense with one turnover.

The Redbirds host Cambridge in a nonconference game in Week Six.


East Troy 41, Evansville-Albany 20

EAST TROY — The Blue Devils let a 14-13 lead at halftime slip away. 

East Troy’s Jacob Price took the opening kickoff of the third quarter 88 yards for a touchdown to make it 20-14 and Evansville-Albany’s Ty Severson threw an interception on the next drive that helped sway the winds of momentum. Severson would go on to throw both of his interceptions the second half and the Blue Devils would gain just 132 yards of offense in the half, which included a 4-play, 70-yard drive to open the fourth quarter.

Severson finished 18 of 28 passing for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Hill had 37 yards rushing on four carries with a score for Evansville-Albany, which also got nine catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns from Sully Geske.

The Blue Devils (0-5, 0-5 Rock Valley) host Whitewater (0-5, 0-5) in Week Six.


Beloit Turner 32, Brodhead-Juda 27

BELOIT — The Cardinals trailed 20-7 after the first quarter and were down 26-14 at halftime but still had opportunities to take the lead in the second half.

Turner opened the game with two touchdowns in the first six minutes on passes from Kenny Draeving to Dai’Vontrelle Strong of 19 and 24 yards. Marco Bueno punched it in for Brodhead-Juda from a yard out with 2:20 left in the first quarter to make it 14-7, but Turner scored again moments later when Draeving and Strong connected on a 64-yard TD strike. 

Jeff Williams had a five-yard score for Brodhead-Juda in the second quarter and opened the third quarter with a 95-yard return to make it 26-21. 

The Cardinals (2-3, 2-3 Rock Valley) need three wins in their final four weeks to guarantee a postseason spot. East Troy (4-1, 4-1) comes to town in Week Six, while Whitewater (0-5, 0-5), Big Foot (2-3, 2-3) and McFarland (5-0, 5-0) await in the following weeks.
