ARGYLE — The Orioles hosted and beat the defending WIAA Division 4 state championship team, Belmont.
Argyle scratched two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior ace Grace Ganshert made sure the runs stayed the difference. She finished with seven strikeouts and two walks while scattering three hits. The run allowed in the top of the sixth was unearned due to an error in the field.
Ganshert and Hannah Gierhardt each tripled for Argyle. Tori Lantz was 1-for-1 with two walks and both RBIs on a first-inning single.
Pecatonica 10, Benton/Shullsburg 2
BENTON — The Vikings’ offense exploded on the road April 29.
Niveah Gross was 2x3 with a walk, a triple and a home run for Pecatonica. Chloe Schraepfer and Maddie Hirsch each had a double. Tessa Green and Lily Busser each had a pair of hits for Pecatonica.
The game was relatively tight throughout before the sixth innings.
The Vikings scored 3 in the first inning and another in the second to go up 4-0, but three straight frames of limited scoring gave way to the floodgates.
Pecatonica drew a 6-spot on Benton-Shullsburg in the sixth, with the home team adding another two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Schraepfer got the win on the mound, striking out 10 while allowing one walk and five hits.

MCFARLAND — The Cardinals swept the Spartans in a May 1 doubleheader.
McKenna Young tossed a complete game shutout in the opener, striking out 13 batters while scattering six walks and three hits.
Madisyn Kail had a double, and Young and Emaleigh McNeece scored the only runs of the game. Young scored in the fifth inning on an error, and McNeece scored on a sacrifice fly by Taetum Hoesly.
In the second game, Sophia Leitzen pitched six innings for Brodhead, allowing four hits, two walks and three runs. Young tossed a scoreless seventh for the save.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but McFarland scored three in the top of the fourth to briefly take the lead. Brodhead added a run in each the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings.
Leitzen was 2x2 at the dish with 2 walks, a double, an RBI and a run. Young had a hit, a walk and two RBIs.
Darlington 11, Monticello-New Glarus 7
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds picked up a nonconference win April 30 over the Ponies.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first and 4-0 entering the bottom of the third, Darlington took advantage of Monticello’s Jaden Zuber. The Redbirds scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and fifth, and another four runs in the bottom of the sixth innings. The Ponies could only match with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Darlington leadoff hitter Greta Volkening reached base three of the five times she stepped to the plate. She had a hit and two walks and added two runs. Cori Golackson reached three times, while Xandria Olson stood on first four times. Cayla Golackson reached three times, as did Laura Sturtz and Mila Gille.
Kaitlyn Eyler and Harley Disch each reached twice and scored two runs for Monticello. Alexa Siegenthaler had a pair of hits, as did Riley Keehn. McKenna Pfeuti tripled in the first.
