Argyle 3, Juda 0

JUDA — The Argyle Orioles are off to a hot start in high school volleyball after a three-set sweep over Juda, 25-14, 25-9, 25-19 in Six Rivers conference action on Sept. 11. 

Kylie Butler delivered 15 kills, four digs, and an ace. Brooke Wellnitz had seven kills, 10 digs, an ace, and a block. Claire Holmes chipped in with six kills, four aces, two blocks, and three digs while Avari Steiner patrolled the court with 26 assists, four digs, and one block.

Argyle (12-1, 4-0)  remains in first place in the Six Rivers East. The Orioles host Albany on Sept. 16. Juda (0-9, 0-3) will be back in action on Sept. 18 at home against Black Hawk.


Argyle Wins Seneca Volleyball Tournament

SENECA — The Argyle Orioles won the Seneca Volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13 by winning all four of their matches in two sets. The Orioles defeated Riverdale 25-18, 25-16; Boscobel 25-20, 25-8; Seneca 25-21, 25-18 and; Westby 25-13, 25-11.

For the tournament, Kylie Butler had 40 kills, 22 digs, nine aces, and four blocks. Brooke Wellnitz racked up 35 kills, 42 digs, three aces, and seven blocks. Avari Steiner had 81 assists to go along with eight digs. Claire Holmes contributed nine kills and seven aces while Lexi Wonders come up with seven kills and seven digs.

“I’m very proud of the way we played Saturday,” said Argyle coach Jen Green. “Overall, we played consistent all day.  It was a team effort and they are fun to watch when they put it all together.”


Brodhead 3, Clinton 0

CLINTON — The Brodhead Cardinals downed the Clinton Cougars 3-0 in the Rock Valley Conference opener for both teams. The Cardinals won 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 behind Brynn Riesterer with eight kills and Allie Dahl with seven kills.

Gretchen Kammerer distributed 22 assists along with three aces. Dahl had five aces and 12 digs. Leah Rear added nine digs for Brodhead (11-4, 1-0). 

Brodhead hosts Edgerton on Tue. Sept. 16 in RVC volleyball.


Fennimore 3, Darlington 0

DARLINGTON — The Darlington Redbirds lost their volleyball match with Fennimore in three sets 16-25, 16-25, 21-25. 

The Redbirds were led by Maddie Gratz and Sydney Wiegel with five kills each. Gratz and Kate McGranahan each had six digs. Lilly Ritchie came up with 14 assists and two blocks for the Redbirds. 

Darlington dropped to 2-5 and 0-2 in the SWAL with the loss. 


Barneveld 3, Black Hawk 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Barneveld Eagles had their way with the Black Hawk Warriors in Six Rivers Conference volleyball on Sept. 11, winning all three sets by identical scores of 25-11. Senior Kiera Brunner had four kills and one assist for the Warriors. Senior Mya Milz had three kills and two aces for Black Hawk and junior Jaci Kammes added two assists. 

Black Hawk (0-5, 0-2) also played in the Lancaster Invitational on Sept. 13. The Warriors host Monticello on Sept. 16.

Other Area Sept. 11 Contests

In other area volleyball action on Sept. 11, Monroe dominated Whitewater with a 3-0 sweep, Monticello defeated Albany 3-1, New Glarus fell to Waterloo 3-1 and Belleville pulled off a 3-2 thriller over Cambridge.


Lancaster Tournament

On Sept. 13, Black Hawk lost 2-0 to Fennimore and Viroqua 2-0.


Waterloo Invitational

On Sept. 13, Belleville defeated Columbus 2-0, Sun Prairie East 2-1, and lost to Cuba City 2-0 and Lake Country Lutheran 2-0.


Sauk Prairie Invitational

On Sept. 13, Darlington swept Fort Atkinson 2-0 and knocked off Reedsburg 2-1. Lodi defeated the Redbirds 2-1 and host Sauk Prairie beat the ’Birds 2-0.
