Oregon takes Sugar River Invitational

BELLEVILLE — Four local teams took part in the six-team Sugar River Invitational April 2 at Belleville High School. Oregon won both the boys and girls title, with Sugar River finishing second.

Albany girls were third, followed by Pecatonica-Argyle, Monticello and Fall River. Pec-Argyle’s boys team was third, while Fall River finished fourth in points, Monticello fifth and Albany sixth.

In the girls’ 100-meter dash, Sugar River senior Kiara Donnell (13.03 seconds) edged Monticello senior Alyssen Noriega (13.23) for the top spot.

Donnell also won the 200 (27.69) with Monticello freshman Hannah Clark (28.72) taking second and Albany senior Kaitlyn Trow (28.94) third.

Trow won the 400 (1:07.96), just ahead of freshman teammate Payton Wachholz (1:08.84), who was second, and Monticello junior Ali Risley (1:16.79) who was third.

Oregon swept the top three spots in the 800 and 3200, but Sugar River sophomore Tayler Yapp was second in the 1600 (6:10.39) and Albany sophomore Alyssa Knauf was third (6:34.06).

In the girls 100 hurdles, Pecatonica-Argyle junior Valerie Carr was third (19.51). Albany’s Kristin O’Bel won the 300 hurdles (53.13) by 19/100ths of a second.

The Raiders’ 400-relay team of Donnell, Ava Foley, Jade Halvensleben and Heidi Wegehaupt took top honors (53.54), while Pec-Argyle’s McKenzee Granberg, Addisyn Noble, Allie Godfrey and Carr were third (58.52) behind Oregon (53.77)

Oregon won the 800-relay (1:54.14), while Monticello’s quartet of Maggie Bak, Risley, Clark and Noriega were second (1:56.34) and Sugar River’s Erin Kittleson, Hallie Bartow, Emily Bartow and McKenzie Rodebaugh were third (2:02.03).

In the 1,600-relay, Oregon was first (4:33.42) with Sugar River tandem of Hallie Bartow, Lily Himmelmann, Kittleson and Foley second (4:43.77). Albany’s Megan Anderson, Kaiya Zurfluh, Madison Peters and Alyssa Knauf were third (4:55.53).

Wachholz, O’Bel, Anderson and Haley Knauf ran to second in the 3200-relay (11:09.77) for Albany. Sugar River’s Morgan Erstad, Nina Schiro, Molly Molencamp and Yapp were third (11:57.85. Oregon (11:06.51) won the race.

Katie Bowers of Sugar River won the high jump with a mark of 5-feet. Noble was second (4-10) and Himmelmann third (4-6). Wegehaupt won the pole vault (7-6) over teammate Kyla Jerome.

Foley was the long jump winner (15-07), finishing ahead of Bak (14-09) and Trow (14-04). Halvensleben won the triple jump (31-00), with O’Bel second (28-08).

Albany’s Libby Beck was the shot put champion (36-07.75), ahead of Sugar River’s Haiden Zimmerman (31-04). Zimmerman finished third in the discus (86-04).

On the boys side, Oregon took the top three spots in the 100 dash, but Sugar River’s Jjay Wenger (24.12) and Milo Hoesly (24.54) finished 1-2 in the 200.

Pecatonica-Argyle swept the top three spots in the 400, with Joe Tisch (57.89) finishing on top, followed by teammates Lucas Gilbertson (1:00.15) and Cade Bush (1:02.35).

Monticello’s Rudy Wicker was second in the 800 (2:16.07), while Adam Nelson of the Raiders was third (2:19.06). Nelson was second in the 1600 (4:56.45).

In the 3,200, Sugar River freshmen Jordan Wilder (11:56.75) and Matthew Loshaw (12:02.64) finished second and third.

Pec-Argyle senior Jaden Hendrickson won the 110 hurdles (16.78), finishing just ahead of Oregon’s Donovan Johnson (16.90). Sugar River’s Sean McDermott was third (20.37).

Hendrickson also won the 300 hurdles (44.23), with McDermott third (46.87).

In the 400-relay, Sugar River’s Patrick Samon, Sawyer Fahey, Wenger and Hoesly took second (46.79).

Pec-Argyle’s group of Gilbertson, Dietrich Zimmerman, Kaden Hartwig and Dalton Turner were second in the 800-relay (1:45.77).

The Vikings quartet of Hendrickson, Tisch, Mason Waage and Troy Nickels won the 1600-relay (3:46.52), just 24/100ths of a second ahead of Oregon. Monticello’s Pete Gustafson, Evan Guenther, Cade Femrite and Wicker were third (3:53.80).

Pec-Argyle also won the 3200-relay, with Turner, Nickels and Joe and David Tisch finishing with a time of 9:11.13. Sugar River’s Sean Campbell, Caden O’Rourke, Wilder and Loshaw were second (9:28.48).

Jacob Shrader of Sugar River won the high jump (5-08), with Gustafson finishing tied for third (5-06). Robbie Chenoweth of Sugar River was second in the pole vault (10-00).

Jaden Hendrickson won the long jump (18-05), and teammate Payton Flannery was third in the triple jump (32-00).

Albany’s Evan Blumer won the shot put (43-05), with Sawyer Fahey second (35-02.25) and Raiders teammate Eric Segura third (34-05.25). Blumer also won the discus (145-01) by nearly 25 feet.
