MONROE — Oregon swept the Cheesemakers 7-0 in their Badger South dual April 18.
“They were a much more experienced program than us and certainly had more refined skills,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. “Nine of their 10 in their varsity were seniors and many had quite a bit of varsity experience. It was great for our guys to see what a really well-rounded team looks like.”
Chris Andraski lost the No. 1 singles match to Sean Bychowsky 6-0, 6-2. Gabe Moon was blanked in the No. 2 singles match by Zak Roskos 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Tim Beckman fell to Ben Hessler 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 4 singles, Charlie Frehner was beaten by Henry Wiedeman 6-1, 6-2.
“Chris Andraski and Charlie Frehner played some of the more competitive matches of the day. Chris battled Oregon’s No. 1 singles with Bo Bahler out of the lineup for us at No. 1 singles. Chris stepped up big time and was a formidable challenge for his opponent. They played a lot of great points but Oregon’s No. 1 had a better serve and a few other nice shots he used throughout the match,” Bordner said. “Matches like this are huge for Chris’s development. As a sophomore playing 1 or 2 singles usually, he is facing great competition and will only grow because of it.”
Evan Thompson and Luke Quinn lost in the No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Wade Sweeny and John Callaway were disposed 6-0, 6-0. Heath Bear and Luis Torres lost the No. 3 doubles match 6-1, 6-0.
“Many of our guys had some positives to take away from their matches, even though the scores were lopsided. We also know what we need more work on which will hopefully help continue to fuel our training,” Bordner said. “We will face several more teams in our conference like Oregon in which we will simply be outmatched, but I was glad our guys stayed positive about the experience.”
