No. 1 Mineral Point drops Black Hawk

SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk was handed a humbling defeat Jan. 17, losing to top-ranked Division 4 team Mineral Point 61-28 in a nonconference game.

The Pointers jumped out to 15-point lead by halftime, then outscored the Warriors by another 18 points in the second half.

Four Pointers reached double figures, with Mallory Lindsey, Blair Watters and Katelyn Cox each scored 12. Black Hawk was led in scoring by Raylin Peterson, who had seven points. 

Mineral Point won the turnover battle 22-12, shot 7 of 32 from deep and 10 of 16 from the line. Black Hawk was 1-for-6 from the line and 3 of 10 from deep.


Orangeville 56, Monticello 28

ORANGEVILLE — The Broncos won a nonconference border battle against the Ponies Jan. 18.

“They have some height and shot very well from the outside,” said Lori Brokopp, Monticello coach. “Our shooting percentage was very low — we couldn’t get shots to fall.”

Freshman Dalana Trumpy led the Ponies with 14 points. Katelyn Eyler led the team with seven rebounds. Monticello was set to host Pecatonica Jan. 20.

In other area girls basketball action, Baraboo routed Monroe 66-39 on Jan. 18.
