No. 1 doubles selected for state trip

MONROE — The Cheesemakers’ No. 1 doubles team received a special qualifying spot for the WIAA Division 2 state tournament to be held Thursday at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.

Grace Tostrud and Jensen Christensen (16-10) will compete at 6 p.m. Thursday against Edgewood’s Kinsey Kessel and Lizzie Drake (15-10), the fifth seed.

Earlier this season Drake and Kessel defeated Tostrud and Christensen 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

The Monroe duo breezed through their subsectional Oct. 2 against Edgerton 6-2, 6-1 but lost to Waukesha Catholic Memorial in the sectional Oct. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

The winner of Thursday’s match will take on the winner of Baldwin-Woodville (15-8) and Watertown Luther Prep (26-2) at 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. The winner of that flight would then play Friday at 2:30 p.m. and the following winner would play at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
