MONROE — New Glarus-Monticello captured both the boys and girls team titles at the April 16 Monroe Quadrangular at Twining Park.

On the boys side, the Knights nearly swept the top race. NGM had its five top runners finish top-6 in the race, and its 7-man varsity team all finished in the top-9.

Joe Quaglia won the race with a time of 17:46.8. Monroe’s Heath Huschitt (17:52.1) was second. Tom Nelson (17:58.15), Brayden Ryan (18:03.9), Evan Guenther (18:18.3), and Braylon Hoesly (18:34.3) all scored for the Knights. Ty Ready (18:45.9) finished just two steps behind Milton’s Trey Smith, taking eighth, and Conor McCoy (18:52.6) was ninth.

Monroe’s Jared Batz (18:58.4) and Zander Slack (19:08.5) were the 10th and 11th runners to cross the finish line. Freshman Adyn Thelander (21:12.8) was 22nd overall. Fellow freshman Wyatt Stevenson (29th, 22:12.9), Cristian Gomez (36th, 24:00.3) and AJ Fuchs (37th, 26:31.6) all scored for the Cheesemakers.

Belleville’s Angelo Dohm (20:48.5) and teammate Michael Walker (21:06.0) led their team, finishing 18th and 19th overall.

The Cheesemakers edged Milton for second play in the team standings, with Belleville fourth.

In the girls race, NGM won with 37 points. Milton (54) was second, with Monroe (59) third and Belleville (77) fourth.

Milton’s Mara Talabac (20:28.8) won the race. Lily Maynard (21:02.7) was the first NGM runner to cross the finish line, followed by Melanie Fink (5th, 22:15.2), Dayna Karls (6th, 22:17.5), Tenley Faber (11th, 23:05.6) and Annika Ziperski (13th, 23:29.4). 

Jadyn Elgin was the first Monroe runner to finish, taking third overall (21:31.5). Alyssa Roelli took seventh (22:19.2), followed by Katrina Sathoff (14th, 24:01.8), Jenna Brower (16th, 24:46.1) and Marlies Brandli (25:41.1). 

Belleville’s Tayler Yapp (9th, 23:00.0) edged out teammate Alora Spiegel by 3/10ths of a second for the top spot on the Wildcats list.
