NGM 11th at state CC meet

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — New Glarus-Monticello saw both its boys and girls cross country teams run to 11th place finishes at the WIAA Division 2 state cross country meet, held Oct. 30 at The Ridges Golf Course.

Senior Dayna Karls was the top finisher for the NGM girls team, finishing 49th overall with a time of 20:49.1. Lily Maynard (21:05.3) was 59th. 

Southwestern/Benton/Cuba City senior Kayci Martensen (18:10.0) won the race by just under 15 seconds. Monroe’s Sierra McGuire was 42nd overall (20:41.5). Dodgeville-Mineral Point was the team champion, defeating Shorewood by a single point, 88-89.

On the boys side, Shorewood won the team title (54) ahead of Green Bay Notre Dame (73). 

New Glarus junior Tom Nelson (17:35.4) was the 50th runner to cross the finish line, followed by teammate Evan Guenther, a senior (17:53.3). Shorewood’s Nathan Cumberbatch (16:06.4) was the individual champion.

Division 3 Results

In Division 3, Valders senior Shane Griepentrog (15:38.6) was the individual champion, blowing away the field and finishing over 35 seconds ahead of teammate Clay Taylor, who was second. Belleville sophomore Carter Scholey (16:52.5) was eighth overall. Valders won the team title.

Darlington senior Rhett Reuter was 38th overall (17:52.00), while teammate George West finished 52nd (18:03.3) in the 149-person field. 

On the girls side, Boscobel claimed the team championship, while Burlington Catholic Central junior Elsie Kmecak (19:47.7) won the race by 2.5 seconds.
