MONTICELLO — Junior Nolan Julseth cracked a two-run homer in a four-run fourth inning to power the New Glarus Glarner Knights to an 11-6 win over the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions in nonconference baseball on Monday, April 6.
Julseth went 2x2 with two RBIs and had two stolen bases. Senior Ashlin Mihlbauer was 2x3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, In all, the Glarner Knights had 12 stolen bases in the game. Sophomore Ethan Colstad allowed no earned runs over four innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
Monticello-Albany was led by junior Tyler Constantini, who went 2x3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Junior Hunter Grossen went 2x3 with an RBI and scored a run. Junior Ty Durtschi took the loss giving up four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. The Space Stallions committed four errors which led to a pair of unearned runs.
New Glarus (1-0-1) was scheduled to play at Lake Mills in a nonconference game on Tuesday, April 7. Monticello-Albany (0-2) had a nonconference game scheduled at Belleville on Thursday, April 9 and another nonconference game at home against Argyle-Black Hawk set for Friday, April 10.
Lake Mills 6, New Glarus 5
LAKE MILLS — The New Glarus Glarner Knights found themselves down 6-0 after three innings but rallied and came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Lake Mills L-Cats in a Capitol Conference crossover game on Tuesday, April 7.
The Glarner Knights came back with two runs in the sixth inning and three more runs in the seventh inning before their rally was cut short. Catcher Ashlin Mihlbauer, SS Nolan Julseth, pitcher Matt Roth, and 1B Braden Rear each drove in a run for New Glarus. Right fielder Ethan Colstad got on base three times with a double, walked twice, and scored a run for the Knights.
Roth pitched four and 1/3 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
New Glarus (1-1-1) traveled to Mineral Point to play a nonconference game scheduled on Thursday, April 9, and they had a nonconference game scheduled on Friday, April 10 at home against Pecatonica.
Dodgeville 13, Monroe 3
DODGEVILLE — The Monroe Cheesemakers held a 3-2 lead over the Dodgeville Dodgers after three innings, but the Dodgers broke through with eight runs in the fourth inning to cruise past the Cheesemakers 13-3 in five innings on Tuesday, April 7 in nonconference action.
The Cheesemakers struck quickly with three runs in the first inning on RBI singles by starting pitcher Marcus Ott and right fielder Ian Berg. Catcher Logan Meier and 2B Eli Schaefer also had base hits and scored for the Cheesemakers. Schaefer collected two stolen bases in the game for Monroe.
The Cheesemakers (0-1-1) traveled to Mount Horeb for a nonconference game against the Vikings on Friday, April 10.
Southwestern 13, Argyle-Black Hawk 4
HAZEL GREEN — The Southwestern Wildcats used the first three innings to get a 13-4 lead over Argyle-Black Hawk and defeated the Warbirds 18-8 in six innings in nonconference baseball on Monday, April 6.
The Warbirds grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Southwestern answered with four runs in the first inning and tacked on five runs in the second inning and four more runs in the third inning.
Junior Cole Dunlavey hit a home run and drove in four runs for Argyle-Black Hawk. Senior Jackson Berget (3x3) and junior Mitchell Johnson (2x3) each hit a double and drove in a run for the Warbirds.
Argyle-Black Hawk (0-2) begins Six Rivers action with a home game scheduled for Thursday, April 9 against Barneveld and at Monticello-Albany on Friday, April 10.
Turner 11, Brodhead-Juda 1
BELOIT — A scoreless tie in the third inning turned into an 11-1 win for the Turner Trojans over the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals on Tuesday, April 7 in RVC-Rock action.
Left fielder Jayden Nehls got the only hit of the game for the Cardinals. Third baseman Beck Benton scored the only run of the game for Brodhead-Juda in the fifth inning.
Turner got four runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning, and five runs in the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Brodhead-Juda (0-2, 0-1 RVC-Rock) faced Turner again on Thursday, April 9 in a game scheduled at Brodhead. The Cardinals were also scheduled to host Parkview in a nonconference game on Saturday, April 11.
Southwestern 3, Darlington 2
HAZEL GREEN — The Southwestern Wildcats were able to get a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to get a 3-2 win over the Darlington Redbirds in SWAL baseball on Tuesday, April 7.
The Redbirds trailed 2-1 in the fourth inning but scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Southwestern tied it 2-2 with a run in the sixth inning before getting a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth.
The Redbirds got only three hits which led to runs by Zeke Zuberbuhler and Calum Crist in the fourth inning.
Crist pitched 5 2/3 innings and surrendered two runs on four hits. Crist walked seven and struck out seven. Mason Wiegel pitched two innings and took the loss after allowing a run on two hits.
Darlington (1-1) hosted Cuba City in SWAL action in a game scheduled on Friday, April 10.
