NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights closed the regular season with a 16-3 win in five innings over Argyle on May 23.
New Glarus had just six hits but walked 13 times and took advantage of four Orioles errors. Eli Zimmerman scored three runs and stole four bases for the Knights. Jake Roth had two steals and two runs. On the mound, Leyton Mihlbauer allowed three runs (one earned) in three innings, while Zimmerman and Cale Weeden pitched a scoreless inning of relief each. Zimmerman struck out the side in his appearance.
Buddy Gerber took the loss for Argyle, recording just one out while walking five and hitting another batter in the top of the first inning. Ike Waage relieved for 2.1 innings and had four strikeouts and just one hit allowed, but five walks turned into five runs. Brady Penniston tossed the final 1.1 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks.
Mount Horeb 9, Pecatonica 0
MOUNT HOREB — The Pecatonica Vikings closed the regular season with a nonconference loss to the Mount Horeb Vikings May 23.
Coy Ruegsegger, Elijah Knutson, Tyler McKeon and Carson Kurschner all pitched for Pecatonica. Kegun Brunker and Jameson Johnson had Pecatonica’s lone hits.
Darlington 14, Benton-Shullsburg 0
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds used a 9-run first inning to bury the Miners from the onset of their nonconference game May 23.
Darlington out-hit the Miners 11-2 in the contest. Leadoff hitter Braden Davis doubled, homered, walked, stole four bases, drove in two and scored three times for Darlington. Hunter Hardyman and Breylin Goebel each doubled. Gage Banfield had two hits and three RBIs, while Barrett Vieth had a pair of hits.
Cadyn Burbach pitched four scoreless innings for Darlington to get the win, and Goebel struck out the side in the fifth to finish off the game.
