New Glarus defeats Waterloo on the road for first time in 10-plus years

WATERLOO — It took five sets, but New Glarus topped Waterloo 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 15-11 in a Capitol South contest Sept. 12. It had been over 10 years since the Knights stole one from the Pirates on their home court.

Sophomore Kalia Malaise was all over the floor with eight kills, three aces, 38 digs and 23 assists. Audry Brueggemann led the offense with 13 kills. Ellie Brenkman was a strong presence at the net with eight blocks, and Jaycee Dimaggio kept rallies alive with 33 digs.


EAST TROY 3, MONROE 0

EAST TROY — The Cheesemakers hit just .032 in a three-set loss to the Trojans Sept. 12. The defending Rock Valley-Valley champions won 25-15, 25-11, 26-24.

Monroe’s strengths came at the service line, where the team tallied 12 aces. Riley Nicholson had four. Anastasia Lattin led the offense with three kills, while Mya Wild distributed with nine assists.  

BRODHEAD 3, TURNER 1

BELOIT —  After dropping the first set 25-17, the Cardinals rallied to win three straight sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.

Brynn Riesterer led the offense with 13 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Gretchen kammerer and Addie Leifker split the setting duties with a combined 35 assists. Libero Leah Rear had a team-high 18 digs.


BARNEVELD 3, ARGYLE 0

BARNEVELD — The Orioles pushed the defending Six Rivers East conference champions each set but ultimately fell 25-20, 25-22, 25-18. The Eagles, who received honorable mention in the latest WisSports.net Coaches Poll, had a balanced offense with four hitters having five or more kills.

Conversely, Argyle relied on Kylie Butler and Brooke Wellnitz. The two recorded 20 of the team’s 25 kills. Mya McNett fed the two with 21 assists and kept rallies alive with a team-best 15 digs.

In other local volleyball, Pecatonica defeated Juda 25-8, 25-16, 25-15. Belleville blanked Cambridge 25-20, 25-21, 25-18.
