The Gavin Breadon Memorial Youth Wrestling Tournament held their final event at the current high school efficiently and seamlessly. Monroe Wrestling Club had champions on the podium and champions making sure this day went well. With the help of many volunteers, including the families of the Monroe Wrestling Club wrestlers, the Monroe High School Wrestling Team and parents, and Monroe Wrestling Alumni and friends, along with generous donations from businesses and families, this tournament was another success.
MWC hosted 472 wrestlers from 29 different teams. Team trophies went to Monona Grove/McFarland (1st Place); The Law (2nd place); Sauk Valley (3rd place); and Oregon (4th place).

Tom Thompson, also from Monroe, was the big 50/50 winner, donating some of his proceeds back to the MWC.
Concessions for both the high school invite on Jan. 24 and the youth tournament Jan. 5 were organized by Stephanie Fletcher and Meagan Weckerly.
Monroe Wrestling Club families went the extra mile to volunteer and donate. Custodian, Brooke Foley “was a rock star,” organizers said. MHS students Elena Boss, Maryella Green and Lian Truong who sang the National Anthem (twice) to get our tournament started. Wes Speer provided trainer services throughout the day.
MWC is head coached by John Witt. He and the MWC coaches have been great leaders to their young wrestlers and encouraging them to do their best.
