Monticello trounces Juda; Sass’s buzzer- beater lifts Pecatonica

MONTICELLO — After losing four straight games, the Ponies rebounded in a big way with a 76-8 victory over the Panthers on Friday, Dec. 16.

Monticello limited Juda to six points and just two points in the second half while scoring 38 points in each half.

Ryer Indergand led Monticello with 16 points, going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Peyton Smith and Jackson Eyler followed with 13 points each, while Smith snagged a team-leading nine rebounds — just one shy of a double-double. 

Blake Adkins, Erik Woodward and Jayden Brown were the only scorers for Juda. Adkins sank the only 3-pointer for the Panthers, while Brown recorded a team-high five rebounds.


PECATONICA 56, BLACK HAWK 54

BLANCHARDVILLE — Connor Sass won the game for Pecatonica, scoring a buzzer-beating layup with a pass from Jameson Johnson.

The Vikings had a 29-21 lead at halftime and nearly let it slip away, as Black Hawk outscored Pecatonica 33-27 in the second half. Free throws and clutch scoring proved to be the difference, as the Vikings were 15-for-25 from the line, while Black Hawk was just 7-for-22.

Johnson led Pecatonica with 17 points and an 8-for-11 performance from the free-throw line. Tyler McKeon trailed with 12 points. Grady Gordon tallied seven points, with six of them coming from beyond the arc.

Lucas Milz also recorded 17 points as the leading scorer for Black Hawk. He made three of the Warriors’ five 3-pointers. Andrew Figi also scored in double figures with 10 points.


MONROE 59, FORT ATKINSON 51

FORT ATKINSON — The Cheesemakers gritted out a much-needed conference win against the Blackhawks on Saturday, Dec. 17.

Monroe once trailed 14-3 before ending the half on a 15-3 run. In the second, the Cheesemakers outscored the Blackhawks by 10 to secure the win.

Tucker Markham led with 19 points from eight free throws and one 3-pointer. Charlie Wiegel followed with 18 points, 12 of which game from beyond the arc. James Seagreaves was the third player in double figures with 17 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.


DARLINGTON 56, BOSCOBEL 26

BOSCOBEL — The Redbirds picked up their first conference win of the season on Thursday, Dec. 15 against the Bulldogs.

Darlington more than doubled Boscobel in the first half, leading 36-12. With another 20 points in the second, the Redbirds won by a 30-point margin.

Will Murray led offensively with 19 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. He was the only player in double figures, as the next highest scorer was Carver Fitzsimons with nine points. On the boards, Fitzsimons and Broker Buschor each grabbed six rebounds. Reagan Jackson, Brady Long and Levi Carter snagged another five each.

The Redbirds forced 30 turnovers and had 19 steals. Darlington also bested Boscobel in free-throw percentage (8-for-13, 62% to 2-for-9, 22%).


CLINTON 73, BRODHEAD 65

CLINTON — Brodhead and Clinton’s top players — Cullen Walker and Reagan Flickinger — went point for point in a Rock Valley showdown that ended in a Cougar victory on Friday, Dec. 16.

The Cardinals outscored the Cougars 33-32 in the second half, but Clinton’s nine-point lead after the first half prevailed.

Walker scored 25 points for Brodhead, going 8-for-10 at the free-throw line. Sam Searls added 15 points with two 3-pointers.
