VERONA — Micki Andrews of Monroe scored her second goal of the season, but the Janesville Bluebirds lost to the Madison Metro Lynx 3-2 at the Verona Ice Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

With the Bluebirds trailing 2-1 in the third period, Andrews tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at 13:39 with Maliya Maurer on the assist. The Metro Lynx scored a goal about a minute later to eventually win 3-2.

Hailey Rasmussen of Monroe and Julianna Strommen of Brodhead each saw some playing time for the Bluebirds. 

Janesville (0-4) traveled to Baraboo to face the Badger Lightning on Thursday, Dec. 4.

Andrews scored her first goal on Friday, Nov. 28 in a 2-1 loss to the Lakeshore Lightning in the Arrowhead Turkey Trot Tournament in Hartland. It was the first goal of the season for the Bluebirds. The goal came at 2:13 of the first period. 

Also on that day, the Bluebirds played the Hartland Arrowhead Warhawks and lost 3-1. Andrews played in that game but did not record an assist or a shot on goal. Freshman Hailey Rasmussen of Monroe and freshman Julianna Strommen of Brodhead also played in both games but did not show up on the stat sheet.


Boys Hockey

Monona Grove 6, Monroe 0

MADISON — The Monroe Cheesemakers fell to the Monona Grove Silver Eagles 6-0 in Badger Conference boys hockey on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Hartmeyer Ice Arena in Madison.

Monona Grove scored two goals in each period. Monona Grove had one power play score in the first period. The Cheesemakers were 0-4 on the power play. Goalie Brock Brandli made 42 saves for the Cheesemakers. Monroe had 16 shots on goal.

Monroe (0-2) will host Madison West at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.
