Monroe wins RVC opener 9-1

MONROE — It took a little while for the Monroe Cheesemakers to get their offense going in their RVC-Valley opener against Whitewater, but once they did, they took command.

The Cheesemakers scored six runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning to roll past the Whippets 9-1 on Tuesday, April 7. Whitewater scored a run in the first inning and the score remained 1-0 through four innings. The Cheesemakers changed all that with nine unanswered runs over the next two innings.

Senior starting pitcher Kaegann Paulson went 2x4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Lead-off hitter Jayde Hawkinson was 2x3 and scored two runs. Catcher Kaya Holverson was 1x3 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored. Right fielder Maddi Rueggsegger got a hit, an RBI, and scored a run. Sophomore Jade Tran, playing at 2B, got two hits in three at-bats, drove in a run, and scored a run for the Cheese.

Meanwhile, Paulson worked her magic in the pitching circle, going the distance and allowed one run on two hits. Paulson walked one and struck out five.

Monroe (4-1, 1-0 RVC-Valley) had East Troy on their schedule for a conference road game on Thursday, April 9. The Cheesemakers travel to Stoughton for the Stoughton Triangular with games against Stoughton and Oregon on Saturday, April 11.

Argyle-Black Hawk 7, Darlington 3

ARGYLE — Argyle-Black Hawk scored four times in the sixth inning to unlock a 3-3 tie and come up with a 7-3 win over the Darlington Redbirds in nonconference softball on Tuesday, April 7.

The Orioles had a 3-1 lead going into the sixth inning, but the Redbirds tied it with two runs in the top of the sixth. Alivia Crosby got a hit, a walk, and had two RBIs for Darlington. Raynie Norgard also drove in a run for the Redbirds.

Kylie Butler went 2x4 with three RBIs and scored two runs for Argyle-Black Hawk. Brynn Harris threw a complete game five-hitter for the Orioles, allowing just three runs with five walks and four strikeouts.

Argyle-Black Hawk (2-1) was scheduled to begin Six Rivers action with a game scheduled at Monticello-New Glarus on Friday, April 10. Darlington (1-3, 0-1 SWAL) was scheduled to host the Iowa-Grant Panthers in conference action on Thursday, April 9.

Brodhead 9, Evansville 4

EVANSVILLE — Extra innings were kind to the Brodhead Cardinals as they scored five runs in the eighth inning to beat the Evansville Blue Devils 9-4 in RVC-Rock softball on Tuesday, April 7.

The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Evansville rallied with two runs to tie the game at 4-4 and send it into extra innings.

Mady Henning pitched all eight innings including a scoreless eighth inning to get the win for Brodhead. Henning allowed just one earned run and struck out eight. At the plate, Henning got two hits and drove in three runs with three runs scored. Third baseman Leah Rear went 4x5 with four RBIs, two doubles, and a run scored. Second baseman Keegan Steinke went 3x3 with a pair of doubles and a walk.

Brodhead (1-0-1) was scheduled to play a home game against Big Foot in RVC-Rock Division action on Thursday, April 9. The Cardinals will host McFarland in a nonconference game on Monday, April 13.

Belleville 8, Pecatonica 7

BELLEVILLE — The Belleville Wildcats put up a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Pecatonica Vikings 8-7 in nonconference softball on Monday, April 6.

When the inning began, the Wildcats were down 7-2 but rallied with six runs on two hits, five walks, and one error. Freshman Brynlee Shirley started the rally with a walk and later scored. Brynn Ennis singled and scored and freshman Ava Chapman tripled and scored. Reese Freydenlund, Sophie Fossum, and Thea Elsner all walked and scored.

Chapman went 3x4 and had two RBIs and Shirley was 2x4 with two RBIs for Belleville.

Pecatonica was led by Kiaya York who went 1x4 and had three RBIs. Katelynn Jorenby was 2x3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.

Pecatonica (0-3) was to host Highland in a Six Rivers game on Thursday, April 8.

Lodi 19, Belleville 6

BELLEVILLE — The Lodi Blue Devils scored in every inning, including seven runs in the first inning to rout the Belleville Wildcats 19-6 in five innings in a Capitol Conference crossover game on Tuesday, April 7.

Bryn Prochaska was the leading hitter for the Wildcats as she went 3x3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Brynn Ennis went 2x3 with an RBI and scored two runs. First baseman Story Fossum went 1x3 and knocked in a run for the Wildcats.

Belleville (1-3, 0-1) traveled to Cambridge for a Capitol South game scheduled on Thursday, April 9. The Wildcats were also scheduled to travel to Darlington for a nonconference game on Saturday, April 11.

Mineral Point 12, Darlington 0

MINERAL POINT — The Mineral Point Pointers scored in every inning they batted and shut out the Darlington Redbirds 12-0 in a SWAL game on Monday, April 6.

Junior Raynie Norgard got two hits and freshman Ali Wineland had one hit to account for the only hits in the game for the Redbirds against Mineral Point pitchers Tenleigh Bockhop and Aida Tuttle.

Darlington (1-2, 0-1 SWAL) had another SWAL game scheduled at home against the Iowa-Grant Panthers on Thursday, April 9.
