Turner Trojans Defeat Monroe Cheesemakers 12-1 

The Turner Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first two innings and handed the Monroe Cheesemakers their first loss of the season, 12-1 in five innings at Monroe on April 17. The Trojans scored in every inning and ended the game early on the 10-run rule. The Cheesemakers got one run on one hit, a base hit by shortstop Ashton Hale. Monroe had only four baserunners for the game. Hale got on base twice with his base hit and a walk. Ian Berg started on the mound for the Cheesemakers, giving up eight runs on eight hits in three innings. Berg struck out five and walked two. Owen Hicks pitched the final two innings and gave up six runs on four hits. With the loss, the Cheesemakers dropped to 4-1 overall. Monroe has a pair of non-conference games coming up on April 21 at home against Platteville and April 22 at Lodi.


Monticello-Albany Space Stallions Lose To Potosi-Cassville Chieftains 11-3

The Potosi-Cassville Chieftains scored nine unanswered runs over the final four innings to down the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions, 11-3 in Six Rivers conference baseball at Monticello on April 17. The Space Stallions had a 3-2 lead after three innings, but the Chieftains pulled away with two runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and three more runs in the seventh. Junior 1st baseman Tyler Patchen went 2x4 with a double and two RBIs for Monticello-Albany. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Constantini also had a double and scored two runs for the Space Stallions. Monticello-Albany saw their record fall to 1-5 in the Six Rivers conference, and 1-7 overall. Monticello-Albany played River Ridge in a Six Rivers conference game on April 21 at Monticello.


Brodhead-Juda Outlasts Columbus 2-1

Second baseman Brooks Malkow and first baseman Max Pinnow each drove in a run with a base hit to help the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals edge the Columbus Cardinals 2-1 in non-conference baseball on April 18 in Brodhead. Junior Sam Searls held Columbus in check allowing one run over 6 and 1/3 innings. Parker Vanderpal worked around a one-out walk in the seventh inning to get the last two outs and preserve the win for Brodhead-Juda. The Cardinals upped their overall record to 5-3 with the win. The Cardinals play their Rock Valley-Rock Division conference opener against Big Foot at Brodhead on April 22.


Southwestern Shuts Down Darlington After First Inning For 9-2 Win

The Darlington Redbirds scored two runs in the first inning, but could not do much else against Southwestern starting pitcher Hailey Brant the rest of the way as the Wildcats beat the Redbirds, 9-2 in SWAL conference softball on April 17 at Hazel Green. Starting pitcher Sophie Wiegel combined with senior reliever Erin Winslow to record seven strikeouts. Wiegel also went 2x3 at the plate. Raynie Norgard had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Darlington. The Redbirds fell to 1-4 in the SWAL conference with the loss. Overall, the Redbirds’ record dropped to 1-8. Darlington played at home against Riverdale on April 21.


Five-Run Rally in Seventh Inning Gives Belleville 6-5 Win Over Highland

A five-run rally in the seventh inning gave the Belleville Wildcats a 6-5 win over the Highland Cardinals in non-conference baseball April 17 at Belleville. The Wildcats trailed 5-1 to begin the bottom of the seventh, but struck for five runs to get the walk-off win. The Wildcats used 10 walks along with four hits to get traffic on the bases. Gavan Crum got three of those walks plus scored a run and drove in a run for the Wildcats. Randy Raven had two RBIs and a run scored for Belleville. The Wildcats improved to 2-6 with the win. Belleville traveled to Mineral Point for another non-conference game on April 21.
