MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers are off to a great start to the track season as both their boys and girls teams won the 15th Annual Richard Glendenning Invitational at Monroe High School on Monday, March 30.
In the boys competition, the Cheesemaker boys came in first place with 282.5 points. Brodhead-Juda was second with 138.5. Black Hawk was third with 87. Darlington finished fourth with 55 points. The Albany Comets were fifth with 41 points. Belmont was sixth with 19 points and Monticello was seventh with two points.
The Monroe girls track team took first place with 250.5 points. Brodhead-Juda was second with 170.5 points. The Darlington Redbirds finished third with 87 points. Black Hawk was fourth with 57 points. Albany was fifth with 44 points. Monticello was in fifth place with 19 points, Belmont seventh with 11 points, and Impact Christian Academy was eighth with six points.
In the boys races, junior Grayson Arn of Brodhead-Juda took first place in the 100 meter dash in 10.93 seconds. Arn also captured the 200 meter dash in 22.87 seconds. Senior Mavrik Plummer of Brodhead-Juda won the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.60 seconds. The boys 800 meter run was dominated by the Monroe Cheesemakers as junior Kamrin Gerber-Reamer won the race with a time of 1:59.22 and was followed by junior Elijah Cook, junior Eli Phillips, junior Lukas Gerber, and sophomore Landon Smith.
The same held true in the 1,600 meter run as Monroe had the top four finishers. Freshman Ace Rossing took first place in 5:03.00, followed by sophomore Lucas Veeder, senior Brady Keehn, and sophomore Dylan Clark. Senior Tre Dammen of Monroe was the top runner in the 3,200 meter run in 9:39.73. Sophomore Killian Wild of Monroe was the winner of the 110 meter hurdles in 15.99 seconds. In the 300 meter hurdles, senior Frank Wolf claimed first place in 42.53 seconds.
The Cheesemakers also shined in the boys 4x100 meter relay as senior Mekhi Brown, senior Jy’Shon Broitzman, sophomore Riley Blum, and senior Noah Spotts put up a time of 44.63 seconds. Blum, Broitzman, Brown, and Spotts also led Monroe to a first place finish in the 4x200 meter relay, with the quartet completing the race in 1:32.61. In the 4x400 meter relay, it was the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals turn to win a relay as the team of senior Mavrik Plummer, senior Jorge Villalva, senior Nolan Bump, and senior Simon Moore won the event in 3:34.93. The Albany Comets were the winners of the 4x800 meter relay with sophomore Brooks Wachholz, senior Kaleb Broughton, sophomore Kamden Broughton, and senior Beckett Wachholz running the relay in 9:35.98.
The field events began with senior Frank Wolf of Monroe winning the boys high jump as he cleared six feet. Wolf also captured the boys triple jump as he was successful on an attempt at 42 feet, one inch. The pole vault was won by senior Simon Moore of Brodhead-Juda as he pole vaulted 13 feet, three inches. In the long jump, junior Eli Phillips of Monroe was the first place finisher with a jump of 20 feet, 3.25 inches. Senior Waylon Yoder of Monroe took home first place in the shot put with a toss of 52 feet, six inches. Senior Peyton Herbst of the Cheesemakers was second with a shot put of 47 feet, five inches. Yoder also scored another 10 points for Monroe in the discus throw with a first-place throw of 169 feet, 5.75 inches.
The girls portion of the Richard Glendenning Invitational saw freshman Micki Andrews of Monroe win the 100 meter dash in 13.23 seconds. The 200 meter dash was won by senior Mya Wild of Monroe in 27.54 seconds. Wild also took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.43. Taking first place in the 800 meter run was senior Adalee Berget of Darlington in 2:22.97. Sophomore Vicki Wolf of Monroe notched first place in the 1600 meter run in 5:51.14. Wolf also showed her endurance by winning the 3,200 meter run in 12:44.39.
The 100 meter hurdles went to junior Elliana Shank of Brodhead-Juda, who won the event with a time of 16.58 seconds. Senior Brooke Bunker of Monroe won the 300 meter hurdles as she was clocked in 54.45 seconds. In the relay events, the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals took the 4x100 meter relay as the team of Gracie Hefty, Ella Olson, Taiya Hawkins, and Macy Gretebeck ran the relay in 53.93 seconds. The Darlington Redbirds captured the 4x200 meter relay as Lexie Meyers, Callie Blosch, Bella Ortega, and Catie Hartwig completed the relay in 2:02.62. Darlington also won the 4x400 meter relay with Adalee Berget, Brianna Vazquez, Austia Stauffacher, and Madison Welacha timed in 4:26.23. The Monroe Cheesemakers found success with their 4x800 meter relay team as Ally Miller, Cailie Coy, Elizabeth Veeder, and Lyla Ritschard took first place with a time of 1:35.80.
Monroe, Brodhead-Juda, and Albany dominated in the field events. Senior Miley Hanson of Monroe won the high jump as she cleared four feet, 10 inches. Hanson was also the first place finisher in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, 2.5 inches. Junior Elliana Shank of Brodhead-Juda took first place in the long jump as she reached a mark of 16 feet, 10.75 inches. Senior Anna Zentner of Monroe was the top finisher in the pole vault as she vaulted eight feet. The discus throw saw senior Annelise Bethke take first place with a throw of 106 feet, 10 inches. In the shot put, sophomore Ali Flood of Albany edged freshman Mallory Palleson of Monroe for first place with a shot put of 30 feet, one inch.
