Monroe’s tennis program and supporters traveled to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the UW-Madison campus to cheer on the Cheesemakers’ No. 1 doubles team of Layla Pallesen and Rylee Svendsen, who lost in the opening round of the Division 1 tournament on Thursday, October 16.

MADISON — The girls tennis season came to a close for the Monroe Cheesemakers as the No. 1 doubles team of Layla Pallesen and Rylee Svendsen lost in the opening round to Lucy Day and Elyse McCaffrey of Altoona 6-2, 6-1 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Thursday, Oct. 16. Pallesen and Svendsen closed their season with a record of 19-7.

Cheesemakers coach Matt Bordner was pleased to see the great turnout from Cheesemaker fans and the experience of competing in the state tournament.

“We had an awesome crowd come to support Layla and Rylee and had an incredible experience. It was great to get our girls team back in the state tournament bracket, and we’re excited to keep building on the positive momentum we have in our program as we look ahead to next year,” said Bordner.

In addition to Pallesen and Svendson making it to the state tournament, Monroe had seven players reach the sectionals: Ryann Dahlman (No. 2 singles), Jade Tran (No. 3 singles), Mads Joseph (No. 4 singles), and Alexis Gertsch and Kaya Holverson (No. 2 doubles) all making it. It was the most number of girls the Cheesemakers have had reaching the sectionals under Bodner.
