MONROE — With its third straight undefeated conference season, Monroe landed 13 players on the Rock Valley All-Conference list. Senior lineman James Seagreaves earned Defensive Player of the Year, Toby Golembiewski received Head Coach of the Year and Tom Witt garnered Assistant Coach of the Year.

Golembiewski began coaching Monroe football in 2016 and has compiled a 63-23 record. In that time, he’s led the Cheesemakers to four conference championships — one in the Badger South and three in the Rock Valley. Assistant coach Tom Witt aided Golembiewski in those years, as the two earned back-to-back Coach of the Year honors. The duo also received recognition in the Alt-Spring 2020-21 season.

Seagreaves, who also made first-team offense, tallied 21 tackles. Ten of those tackles were for losses while 6.5 of them were sacks. In Monroe’s Level 1 playoff game against New Berlin Eisenhower, Seagreaves caught an interception and ran it back for a defensive touchdown — the first of his career. He’s blocked a kick.

Other first-team selections to the offense include Kaden Kuester, Tony Wolf and Taylor Herbst. Kuester led the Cheesemakers with 795 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and 79.5 yards per game. Tight end Wolf and lineman Herbst were the lone returners to the line this season, leading the way for Monroe’s prolific offense.

Defensively, Kuester also made the first team. He led Monroe with 13 tackles for loss, including 4.5 sacks. Kuester tallied one forced fumble this season. Lane Meier, who was second team offense, cracked the first team defense roster. He paced the Cheesemakers with 66 tackles, with five of them for losses. Nathan Fuchs was third on the team in tackles with 38, tallying four of them for losses with one sack. Brady Wyss also recorded 38 tackles. He had one forced fumble, one interception and two deflected passes.

Another six Cheesemakers made second team or honorable mention, rounding out the 13 selections.

Monroe went undefeated in the Rock Valley Conference — and with just two nonconference losses — earned a No. 1 seed in the WIAA Division 3 playoffs. The Cheesemakers rolled through New Berlin Eisenhower 49-14 in Level 1 and knocked out RVC opponent McFarland 28-20 in Level 2. Next up for Monroe in Level 3 is former Badger Conference opponent, Stoughton.
