Monroe rolls Fort, 41-6
Top-ranked Warriors topple BSMS; NGM, Darlington score wins

FORT ATKINSON — The Cheesemakers improved to 3-2 on the season with a dominating 41-6 win over the Blackhawks in Week 5.

Monroe (2-1 Badger South) outgained Fort Atkinson in yardage 448-164. Trevor Rodebaugh rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, while Nick Bansley ran for 144 yards and a score on 14 rushing attempts.

The Cheesemakers went up 7-0 in the first quarter when Bansley scored from two yards out at the 6:21 mark. A minute into the second quarter, Max Golembiewski connected with tight end Alex Witt for a 10-yard touchdown to put Monroe up 14-0.

Rodebaugh scored with 1:09 left in the first half, and an interception gave the Cheesemakers another offensive possession before the break. Rodebaugh punched in another score from 1-yard out with 18 seconds left.

Tyler Matley put Monroe up 34-0 in the third quarter, scoring from a yard out. Matley finished the game with 56 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Fort Atkinson (0-5, 0-3) reached the scoreboard with six minutes left in the third quarter thanks to a 53-yard run, but Monroe answered moments into the fourth quarter when Rodebaugh broke free for a 59-yard score.

Golembiewski was 4 for 5 passing for 79 yards. JT Seagreaves caught three passes for 69 yards. Bansley and Preston Ambrose each had an interception for Monroe.

Black Hawk-Warren 33, BSMS 6

WARREN — Top-ranked Black Hawk-Warren made perhaps its biggest statement on the season thanks to a dominating second half against sixth-ranked Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg.

The Warriors led 6-0 at halftime and went up 14-0 in the third quarter. A 19-point fourth quarter put the game away.

Cayden Milz rushed for 140 yards on 14 carries to lead BHW, while teammate Jaylen Rufenacht had 117 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Lucas Milz (31 yards) had a TD run, as did quarterback Ethan Williams (12 yards). Cody Blosch added another 72 yards on eight touches for the Warriors. Williams was 3 for 7 passing for 67 yards, including a 39-yard strike to Brady Hagen.


Darlington 34, Onalaska Luther 9

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds opened homecoming with a bang, as Braden Davis connected with Cayden Rankin for a 51-yard TD pass in the first quarter.

Luther added a 26-yard field goal early in the second quarter, but Darlington made it a two-score game a short while later when Davis scored on a run from 2-yards out. 

Luther’s only touchdown of the day came before halftime when Brandon Stadtler scored on a 22-yard rush.

In the third quarter, Davis connected with Rankin again, this time with an 11-yard strike to make it 21-9. Rankin added another score from a yard out later in the third. Wyat Bredeson scored the game’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter, plunging into the end zone from 3 yards out.

Davis finished the game 3 for 6 passing for 74 yards and added 169 yards on 17 carries. Rankin had 52 yards rushing, while Bredeson had 40. The Redbirds had 358 yards rushing and out-gained Luther 432-130.


New Glarus-Monticello 33, Marshall 7

MARSHALL — The Glarner Knights picked up a solid victory in the Capitol South opener in Week 5.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mason Martinson led New Glarus-Monticello on two scoring drives in the second. Martinson connected with Nathan Streiff from 33-yards out 12 seconds in to the second to put the Knights up early, and then less than four minutes later Martinson threw a 16-yard TD pass to Josh Wieser. Marshall scored a TD with eight seconds left before halftime.

NGM went back up by two scores midway through the third quarter when Martinson tossed a second TD pass to Streiff, this time from 7 yards out.

In the fourth, Martinson scored his fourth TD of the game with a 7-yard run and made it 33-7 with a 5-yard TD rush with 2:56 left in regulation.

Martinson finished the contest with 252 yards through the air on 14 of 22 passing. He had three touchdown passes and one interception. Martinson added another 57 yards rushing.

Connor Siegenthaler had 87 yards on the ground and another 19 through the air for the Knights. Robert Chenoweth had 40 yards rushing on just four carries. Streiff had 215 yards receiving on 10 catches.


Markesan 51, Parkview-Albany 22

MARKESAN — The Vikings took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Hornets countered with 51 straight points.

Host Markesan scored 37 points in the second quarter alone to go up by three scores and added two more touchdowns in the third to kick off a running clock. Parkview-Albany scored a touchdown in the fourth but could not complete a rally.

Hayden Quade had 81 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Markesan, while John Bartaszewicz added 97 yards on the ground. Quade, the Hornets’ QB, added 123 yards passing and three TDs, with the Vikings picking off a pair of passes.

In other area games, Pecatonica-Argyle had its Pecatonica homecoming wrecked with an 18-11 overtime loss to Southwestern.
