STOUGHTON — The Monroe Cheesemakers picked up a very satisfying come-from-behind 5-2 win over the Stoughton Vikings in Badger Conference boys hockey on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
The Cheesemakers were down 2-0 after one period. The turning point came in the second period as Monroe scored four goals. The Cheesemakers added another goal in the third period. Senior Hans Brandt produced a hat trick for Monroe and had an assist. Senior Brady Stuart and sophomore Blake Folgate each scored a goal for the Cheesemakers.
Brandt scored his first goal on a power play with an assist by Stuart at 7:16 in the second period. Brandt got his second goal with assists by senior Brody Goode and senior Brody Koehn at 2:01 in the second period. Brandt completed the hat trick with his third goal at 4:49 in the third period with assists by Koehn and junior Beau Janecke.
Sophomore Brogan Hoelscher made 22 saves for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe (1-4, 1-2) was set to host Oregon in Badger Conference action on Thursday, Dec. 18, followed by Kenosha in a nonconference game Saturday, Dec. 20.

Bluebirds 1, Icebergs 1
JANESVILLE — The Janesville Bluebirds and the Stoughton Icebergs played 67 minutes of hockey on Monday, Dec. 15, but no winner was decided as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Badger Conference girls hockey.
After a scoreless first period, the Bluebirds got their lone goal by taking advantage of a power play opportunity in the second period. Freshman Micki Andrews of Monroe and Ava Kilgora assisted Ella Swenson with a power play tally at 7:45 to give the Bluebirds a 1-0 lead.
The Icebergs tied it 1-1 with a goal at 10:55 in the third period. Both teams skated at even strength in the first overtime in which the score remained 1-1. In the second overtime, the Bluebirds missed out on a golden opportunity as the Iceberg’s Sydney Gilbertson was charged with a 5-minute major checking from behind penalty and a 10-minute misconduct penalty giving the Bluebirds a man advantage. But, the Icebergs were able to kill that penalty and the second overtime ended with the game ending in a 1-1 tie.
Hailey Rasmussen of Monroe and Julianna Strommen of Brodhead saw some time on the ice for the Bluebirds. Goalie Jessie Demarasse had 21 saves for the Bluebirds.
Janesville (0-7-1) will face Wisconsin Valley Union in nonconference action at Waupaca on Saturday, Dec. 20.
