BRODHEAD — Those looking for a nice warm place to be on Saturday night, Jan. 24, a good place was the Brodhead High School gym where the Monroe Cheesemakers brought the heat in a 97-36 win over the Brodhead Cardinals in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game.
Fourteen players scored, topped by junior Kam Gerber-Reamer’s 14 points as Monroe exceeded 90 points for the second time this season. Other players who scored in double figures were seniors Mekhi Brown and Marcus Ott each with 12 points, senior Logan Taylor with 11 points, and sophomore Asher Cook with 11 points.
Senior Sam Searls led Brodhead with nine points and junior Landen Malcook added seven points.
Monroe gabbed a 30-6 lead with 6:10 remaining in the first half on their way to a 49-22 halftime lead. With nine minutes to play, Monroe had an 83-28 lead which started a running clock.
Monroe head coach Brian Bassett said Kam Gerber-Reamer and the rest of the Monroe team did a great job defensively of keeping the Cardinals from getting into a rhythm on offense.
“Kam Gerber-Reamer is an outstanding defender and he studies a lot of film and he took away what he (Sam Searls of Brodhead) is really good at and I was proud of our guys. They watched film on their own and the team really bought in,” said Bassett.
Monroe (9-5, 5-2 Rock Valley-Valley) had a nonconference game on their schedule with New Glarus on Monday, Jan. 26. Brodhead (0-13, 0-8 Rock Valley-Rock) also had a nonconference game scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26 at home against Wisconsin Heights.
