LA CROSSE — The Cheesemakers had two wrestlers place in the annual Bi-State Classic in La Crosse Dec. 28-29. 

Junior Alex Witt, wrestling in the 170-pound weight class, took eighth, while junior Bodie Minder was 12th at 220.

Witt (22-5 overall this season) finished 5-3 on the day with a pair of pins. After advancing to the third round of the championship bracket, Witt lost to Corbin Leflay (16-3) of Hastings, Minnesota via pin. Dropped into the consolation bracket, Witt picked up another pin and two decisions before losing 3-1 in overtime of the consolation’s seventh round to Boscobel’s Chase Beinborn (21-4). In the seventh-place match that followed, Witt lost to Isaac Grams (18-3) of Bloomington Kennedy/Jefferson, Minnesota, via pin at 2:02.

Minder (19-7) finished the day 3-4. After getting two pins in the first two rounds, Minder defeated Garet Pfaff (10-7) of Sparta by a 5-4 decision. In the quarterfinal, Minder lost to Pulaski’s Derek Gibbons (15-5) by an 8-3 decision. Minder then lost back-to-back consolation matches before falling to Lancaster’s Cole Zenz (20-3) in the 11th place match via pin at 2:59.

Monroe’s Julian Gruber (17-8) went 3-2 in the 195 bracket. Logan Clark (8-8) was 1-2 in the 182 weight class. Patrick Rielly (12-3), wrestling at 160, was 2-2. Gabe Witt (7-13) was 1-2 at 152. Zack Roper (4-15), at 132, and Dakota Wickstrum (8-13) at 126 both went 0-2. Kyle Haldiman (5-12) was 1-2 on the day at 113, and Brady Schuh (15-4) finished 3-2 at 106.
