Monroe picks up first RVC win

MONROE — With Mya Wild at the line serving up the last six points, Monroe rallied from behind to defeat Whitewater 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 15-13 on Oct. 3. It was the Cheesemakers’ first conference victory of the season.

Wild had eight of the team’s 17 aces and tallied a team-high 20 assists. Sophie Golembiewski led the offense with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Aubrie Voegeli recorded 23 digs, with four others also in double figures.

At the Clinton Invite on Oct. 5, Monroe went 2-3 for fourth place. The Cheesemakers defeated Clinton 2-1 and Williams Bay 2-0. They fell to Brodhead 2-0, Delavan-Darien 2-0 and Turner 2-1.


BRODHEAD 3, CLINTON 0

CLINTON — The Cardinals served up the Cougars a sweep, including 19 aces in a Rock Valley Conference match on Oct 3. Allie Dahl led the team with six aces, followed by Addie Leifker with five.

Brynn Riesterer registered a team-best 11 kills and was a large presence at the net with three blocks. Gretchen Kammerer and Leifker split the setting duties, combining for 25 assists. Libero Karli Krumwiede hit the floor for 21 digs.  

Brodhead then won the Clinton tournament on Oct. 5.


MONTICELLO 3, PECATONICA 2

MONTICELLO — The Ponies overcame a 9-3 deficit in the fifth game to defeat the Vikings in three sets — 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14 — in a pivotal Six Rivers East Conference game on Oct. 3. With the result, Monticello and Pecatonica move into a tie for third in the league with a 6-3 record. Argyle is just 1/2 game ahead at 6-2. 

In Thursday’s match, Dalana Trumpy had 18 kills and two blocks. Kennadee Johnson led the team in assists and chipped in 10 kills. Jillian Ryan had seven blocks, and Sadie Wilkins served up seven of the team’s 16 aces.


ALBANY 3, JUDA 0

JUDA — The Comets swept the Panthers 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 on Oct. 3. As a team, Albany put up 15 aces led by Ellie Modaff and Kierra Cleasby with four each. Anna Ellinger led the offense with 15 kills, followed by Cleasby with nine. Modaff tallied a team-best 22 assists.


ARGYLE 3, BLACK HAWK 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Orioles maintain a 1/2 game lead over Monticello and Pecatonica in the Six Rivers East following their sweep of the Warriors on Oct. 3.

Kylie Butler was a key player in the match, serving up four aces with 19 kills and 12 digs — all team bests. Brooke Wellnitz had three blocks, and Mya McNett registered 29 assists.

Maddy Lange led the Warriors with six kills. She and Mya Milz tallied three blocks each. Milz also had a team-best eight digs. Keira Brunner distributed the offense with nine assists. 


DARLINGTON 3, BOSCOBEL 0

DARLINGTON —  The Redbirds allowed just 32 points and scored 22 of theirs on aces in a 25-9, 25-12, 25-11 victory over the Bulldogs on Oct. 3. 

Allie Andrews led the team with nine aces and 19 assists. Offensively, the trio of Maddie Gratz, Catie Hartwig and Lilly Ritchie combined for 22 kills. Ritchie also chipped in a team-best eight digs.


BELLEVILLE 3, WATERLOO 0

WATERLOO — The Wildcats defeated the Pirates on Oct. 3, improving to 5-2 in the Capitol South. Belleville is just one game behind league leaders Marshall and Cambridge at 6-1.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, Belleville went 3-2 in the Lodi Invite. The Wildcats beat New Glarus 2-0, Catholic Central 2-0 and Belmont 2-0. They lost to Sun Prairie East 2-1 and Lodi 2-0.
