MONROE — The Monroe boys varsity club hockey team followed up an 8-2 Jan. 2 loss to Edgewood with a 7-2 win over Milton Jan. 4.

The Avalanche led 1-0 on Milton after the first period, then scored three goals in both the second and third periods to cap the blowout.

Hayden Roth had a hat trick with two assists to lead Monroe, while Cade Janecke had a goal and three assists. Ryan Molitor finished with two goals for Monroe and Roman Bauer added another score. Nolan Bodenstein and Blaze Janecke each had an assist. Jayden Johnson was 44 of 46 in saves between the pipes.

In the loss to Edgewood, Monroe fell behind 6-1 after the first period and were outscored 2-1 in the second before skating to a scoreless tie in the third.

Roth, Bauer and Blaze Janecke each had assists, with Blaze and Cade Janecke scoring Monroe’s two goals. Johnson saved 44 of 52 shots.

Monroe is 10-5-1 on the season and hosts Madison West Jan. 7 and 9 at SLICE. In the previous meeting between the two schools on Dec. 5, Madison West came out on top 4-3.
