WHITEWATER — With two runner-up doubles squads, Monroe took third in the Rock Valley Conference tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
No. 2 doubles Alexis Gertsch and Brinley Roidt, who entered the tournament as the 1-seed, fell to Jefferson. The pair had previously beaten the Eagles’ Reagen Feucht and Irelyn Loomis 6-4, 7-5 in duals. Meanwhile, the No. 1 doubles team of Layla Pallesen and Rylee Svendsen performed better than their 3-seed, taking second to Jefferson’s squad. To get to the championship match, Pallesen and Svendson had to defeat 2-seed East Troy. In the regular-season dual, Jolie Thompson and Amber Greenlees had defeated Pallesen and Svendson 6-4, 6-1.
The runner-up finishes helped the Cheesemakers earn 16.5 points in the tournament, which was third-best behind East Troy (37 points) and Jefferson (28 points). Combined with the team’s third-place regular-season finish, Monroe earned 16 points, enough for third overall. East Troy and Jefferson tied for first with 22 points.
Monroe begins postseason play with subsectionals on Monday, Oct. 7 at Oregon.
