MONROE — The Cheesemakers nearly picked up their first Badger South Conference win of the year, but instead lost to Fort Atkinson Sept. 10 at the Honey Creek Park pitch.

Monroe fell behind 1-0 almost immediately after the opening whistle, but tied it at 1-1 in the seventh minute. A pair of defensive miscues led to the Blackhawks scoring two straight goals to go up 3-1 in the 17th minute.

Monroe would rally and held a 5-4 lead in the second half, only to see Fort Atkinson again take advantage of opportunities.

The loss comes on the heels of a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Evansville Sept. 9. The Cheesemakers (1-5, 0-1 Badger South) gave up a goal in the seventh minute to the Blue Devils, only to tie it at the 20:01 mark on a shot from Alex Torres. Evansville would score three more unanswered goals in the first half and then put another three on the board in the second half.

Sugar River 3, Lake Mills 0

BELLEVILLE — The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute and never looked back Sept. 10.

Charlie Douma scored on a penalty kick to give host Sugar River the advantage on the scoreboard, then Douma assisted Carter Siegenthaler on a goal at the 34:01 mark. In the second half, Ryan Downing made it 3-0 in favor of the Raiders.

Lake Mills took nine shots in the game, include 5 on goal, all saved by Julian Lutz. The Raiders took 14 shots, including eight on goal.
