McFARLAND — In a game that resembled video game numbers, the Monroe Cheesemakers fell to the McFarland Spartans 55-44 in Rock Valley Conference football at McFarland on Sept. 26.
The Cheesemakers led 23-21 at halftime and 37-35 after three quarters, but it was the Spartans who prevailed with a 20-7 advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away with the win.
For Monroe, Tristen Anderson rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Ryan Roelli added 84 rushing yards and a touchdown. Overall, the Cheesemakers had 423 yards rushing and scored six touchdowns on the ground.
For McFarland, Jayden Bloodsaw rushed 22 times for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also accounted for 39 receiving yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Garrett Crull completed 29 of 48 passes for 339 yards and six touchdowns for the Spartans.
Defensively, the Cheesemakers were led by Lucas Bartels, who recorded 11 tackles. Monroe had four tackles for loss and forced two turnovers resulting in a fumble recovery and an interception. On special teams, Brock Brandli kicked a 28 yard field goal, his fourth of the season.
The Cheesemakers have yet to win on the road this fall, but the good news is, they play two of their final three regular season games at home. Monroe can still make the playoffs with wins in all three final games. Monroe (1-5, 1-3) will play at home this Friday at T.R. Holyoke Field against the Delavan-Darien Comets.
Prairie du Chien 46, Brodhead-Juda 6
BRODHEAD — The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks scored 32 points in the second quarter to ruin Homecoming for the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals 46-6 in SWC football on Friday, Sept. 26.
After a scoreless first quarter, Prairie du Chien’s Ashton Landt raced 78 yards for a touchdown and a two-point extra point put the Blackhawks in front 8-0. But, the Cardinals struck back as Jordan Dix scored on a two yard touchdown run. The try for two failed and the Cardinals trailed 8-6 with 7:41 remaining in the first half.
However, the Blackhawks scored three more touchdowns before halftime. Quarterback Cayden Sutter threw a 63 yard touchdown pass to Drake Cheesebro with 7:14 left in the half and the two-point extra point was good to give Prairie du Chien a 16-6 lead. Sutter threw another touchdown pass to Mason Hird, this time a 53 yard score and a two-point conversion made the score 24-6 with 4:13 left in the second quarter. A pass by Cardinals’ QB Nolan Krupke was intercepted by Brock Radloff and returned 65 yards for a touchdown with 2:57 remaining before halftime. Another two-point conversion gave Prairie du Chien a 32-6 halftime lead.
The Blackhawks got two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Hird caught his second touchdown pass from Sutter, a 25-yard score, and Deacon Cheesebro ran 16 yards to account for all the second half scoring.
Junior Grayson Arn carried the ball 16 times for 106 yards for the Cardinals. Senior Jordan Dix rushed 10 times for 41 yards and a touchdown. Senior Nolan Bump had two receptions for 23 yards. Brodhead-Juda (0-6, 0-4) will travel to Lancaster (3-3, 1-3) to face the Flying Arrows Oct. 3 in Week 7.
Darlington 37, Fennimore 6
FENNIMORE — The third-ranked Darlington Redbirds scored all of their points in the first half on their way to a 37-6 win over the Fennimore Golden Eagles in a SWAL contest Sept. 26.
DHS quarterback Zeke Zuberbuhler rushed for a touchdown and Broker Buschor caught an 82-yard touchdown pass to lead the Redbirds. Calum Crist rushed eight times for 92 yards as Darlington remained undefeated.
Darlington (6-0, 4-0) will be at home this Friday to host the Lodi Blue Devils in a nonconference game.
New Glarus 42, Platteville 40
PLATTEVILLE — Luke Burton rushed for 112 yards and five touchdowns to help the Glarner Knights stay undefeated and hold off the Platteville Hillmen 42-40 on Sept. 26 in SWC play.
Tight end-convert Brent Weeden caught a touchdown pass from Matt Roth, who went 13 of 20 passing for 222 yards and one touchdown.
New Glarus (6-0, 4-0) will be at home to host Prairie du Chien on Friday.
Belleville 49, Southwestern-East Dubuque 35
HAZEL GREEN — Belleville quarterback Rayden Taylor completed 7 of 8 passes for 178 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a SWAL win over the WarCats 49-35.
Treyton Myers had 175 yards rushing. All five of Cooper Nemec’s catches were touchdowns, with 161 yards total receiving.
Belleville (4-3, 4-0) hosts Benton-Scales Mound- Shullsburg in another SWAL game this Friday in Week 7.
De Soto 64, Monticello 7
DE SOTO — The De Soto Pirates jumped out to a 36-0 lead in the first quarter and made it 52-0 by halftime in a lopsided win over the Monticello Ponies in Ridge & Valley 8 football Sept. 26.
Monticello senior Levi Truttman got the lone touchdown for the Ponies in the third quarter.
Monticello (0-6, 0-5) will host the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in 8-player football this at 3 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 3.
