Monroe knocks off Beloit 3-1

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers atoned for a 9-6 loss to Beloit Memorial on Dec. 29 with a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Purple Knights on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Senior Brody Koehn scored two goals and senior Brock Brandli made 29 saves to get the win for the Cheesemakers.

After a scoreless first period, Beloit Memorial got a power play goal at 13:24 in the second period to go up 1-0. But, senior Hans Brandt got the Cheese on the board with a goal at 14:43 in the second period with an assist by senior Tysen Folgate and junior Beau Janecke to tie it at 1-1. Koehn got the first of his two goals at 16:35 in the second period with an assist from Folgate to put Monroe ahead to stay at 2-1. 

Koehn sealed it with a goal at 15:37 in the third period with assists by senior Brody Goode and sophomore Gibson Daly to put the Cheesemakers ahead 3-1.

The Cheesemakers got 43 shots on goal and killed three power play opportunities by the Purple Knights.

Monroe (2-8) returned to Badger Conference action as they traveled to Sauk Prairie on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
