Knights stun Cards in 10 innings

MONROE — The Cheesemakers evened up the season series with Mount Horeb, picking off the Vikings 6-3 in a road win April 28.

George Brukwicki was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Keatin Sweeney singled, doubled and walked twice in four plate appearances, and added two steals on the basepaths. Trevor Schmitt had a double and drove in two.

On the mound, George Brukwicki pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out four. His brother, Henry Brukwicki, came on in relief in the sixth and closed the door, striking out three in two scoreless innings for the save.


Pecatonica 14, Potosi-Cassville 4

POTOSI — The Vikings dominated P-C in a Six Rivers conference crossover May 2. 

After being struck scoreless in the first two innings, Pecatonica scored four runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and then nine more in the top of the fifth inning. 

Bryce Johnsrud scored three times, and eight Viking starters scored. Pecatonica had 13 walks and only five hits. On the mound, Coy Ruegsegger allowed three earned runs in two innings of work, and Jayden Johnson allowed a single unearned run pitching innings 3-5. 


Benton-Shulls. 7, Mont.-Albany 6

BENTON — The Ponies lost a pair of one-run nail-biters in a Six Rivers crossover April 29.

In Game 1, The Ponies tried to rally from three runs down late, but came up one short. The second game had the same scenario, with M/A trailing by three with two innings to play.

Jackson Eyler was 4-for-8 on the day with five RBIs and two runs. Brayden Bakken was also 4-for-8, collecting two doubles, four runs and two steals.

Of the 18 runs the Ponies allowed, just seven were earned. M/A used six pitchers throughout the doubleheader, and they combined to walk just seven batters.


Potosi-Cassville 11, Argyle 3

ARGYLE — The Orioles collected seven hits, but struck out 12 times to PC starter Robby Roe in a nonconference loss April 29.

Max Godfrey took the loss on the mount, pitching 5.2 innings. Buddy Gerber tossed the final 1.1 innings for Argyle. 

PC took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, though the Orioles fought back to bring it to 5-3 after five innings. PC then scored four runs in the top of the sixth, then added two more for insurance in the seventh.


Belleville 11, New Glarus 1

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats put up a 6-spot in the second inning, and added four more runs in the fifth to walk off with a mercy-rule win over rival New Glarus April 28.

Easton Dreyfus doubled for the Knights, which had just four hits and a walk total in the game. None of Belleville’s seven runs charged to New Glarus starter Eli Zimmerman were earned. Zimmerman tossed four innings, gave up four hits and walked five. Brett Warrell took over in the fifth and was unable to record an out, allowing four runs (three earned) on 28 pitches. 

Trevor Syse struck out seven to get the shutout win for the Wildcats.


New Glarus 8, Brodhead-Juda 2, 10 innings

BRODHEAD — The Glarner Knights scratched their way back from a 2-0 first inning deficit to score a win in extras April 30.

Brodhead-Juda’s Aidyn Vondra and Gabe Bockhop scored on a 2-RBI single from Dylan Lewis in the bottom of the first inning to put the Cardinals up early. New Glarus scored a run in both the fourth and sixth innings to even the score. The teams went three extra innings deep before the Cardinals let it slip away. The Knights scored six runs — all unearned — in the top of the 10th against Cardinals ace Brady Malkow, who tossed 5.1 innings in relief of starter Cooper Woelky. 

Woelky pitched the first four innings for Brodhead-Juda, allowing just one run while scattering four hits and three walks. Malkow tossed 99 pitches in relief, allowing six hits and four walks with six strikeouts, and seven runs (one earned). Kohen Sawle finished the top of the 10th on the mound for the Cardinals. 

For New Glarus, starter Patrick Alt tossed six innings before Brett Warrell came on in relief. The two combined for seven strikeouts with just six hits and one walk allowed.

Easton Dreyfus had a double for New Glarus, while Ethan Friedrich, Cale Weeden, Leyton Mihlbauer and Dreyfus all had two hits. Vondra and Bockhop each had two hits for the Cardinals. 


Brodhead-Juda 1, Whitewater 0

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals scratched across a hard-earned Rock Valley victory April 28 against the Whippets.

Neither team scored through the first 5 ½ frames, but in the bottom of the sixth that all changed. With two outs, Bockhop reached on an error by the Whitewater third baseman, and then moved to second on a botched pickoff attempt. Two pitches later, Malkow doubled to left, driving in Bockhop for the game’s lone run.

Clayton Elliott threw 6.1 innings for the Cardinals, striking out five batters and scattering four hits and two walks on 97 pitches. Malkow picked up the save, finishing off the final two batters on just seven pitches — including a good morning, good afternoon and goodnight 1-2-3 pitch strikeout of Marcus Deporter for the game’s final out. Ryan Searles had two hits for the Cardinals. 


Darlington 8, Fennimore 7

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds let a four-run lead disappear in the fifth, but a 2-run sixth inning brought them back to victory April 29 against the visiting Eagles.

Breylin Goebel had a triple, a single, a walk and was hit by a pitch while driving in two for Darlington, while Maddox Goebel had three singles and two runs. Gage Banfield and Chase Figi each added two hits, with Figi doubling and walking in the game. Cadyn Burbach also had two hits, and Braden Davis had a double in the leadoff spot.

Banfield went 4.2 innings for the Redbirds, with Breylin Goebel tossing the final two innings.
