Monroe knocked out 7-1 by Waukesha

DELAFIELD — The Cheesemakers season came to an end in the first round of the WIAA Division 1 playoffs. Monroe was soundly defeated by the Waukesha Wings 7-1.

Monroe fell behind 2-0 in the first period, and then allowed three scores in the second. A five-minute major penalty following a Waukesha goal with 92 seconds left in the frame directly led to two power play goals to open the third period, putting the Cheesemakers behind 7-0.

Carter Nemergut scored for Monroe with seven minutes left in the third off an assist from Benjamin Erdley.

Waukesha out-shot Monroe 57-19 overall, and had a 26-2 advantage in that category in the second period alone.

The Cheesemakers finish the season with an 11-13 record overall and finished tied for fifth out of 13 teams in the Badger Conference.

Senior Patrick Alt led the team with 44 points on the season with 23 goals and 21 assists. Cameron Newcomer, Brody Goode and Brady Spots each had 31 points.
