Eight Errors Costs Cheesemakers In 7-4 Loss To Mount Horeb

The Monroe Cheesemakers’ defense let them down in a 7-4 loss to the Mount Horeb Vikings in non-conference baseball April 28 at Monroe. The Cheesemakers committed eight errors which led to all but one of the runs scored by the Vikings unearned. Monroe trailed just 5-4 after four innings, but the Vikings scored two more runs in the seventh inning to pull away. Sophomore Zak Seffrood started on the mound for Monroe and allowed five runs. Seffrood pitched three innings and walked four and struck out three. Seffrood was also one of the leading hitters for the Cheesemakers, going 1x4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Center fielder Cole Meighan was 2x4 with an RBI. Shortstop Ashton Hale walked twice and drove in a run. Monroe was back in action in Rock Valley-Valley Division Conference play on April 29 at home against Whitewater.


Cheesemakers Rout Whitewater 20-5

The Monroe Cheesemakers scored half of their runs in the first three innings, then exploded for 10 more runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 20-5 rout in five innings over the Whitewater Whippets in RVC-Valley action on April 29. The Cheese racked up 12 stolen bases and pounded out 14 hits in their Valley Division opener. The 20 runs were a season high for the Cheesemakers. Shortstop Ashton Hale, centerfielder Cole Meighan, and second baseman Eli Schaefer all went 2x3 with three RBIs to lead the Cheesemakers. Left fielder Cam Newcomer, catcher Logan Meier, and right fielder Zane Seffrood each drove in two runs to pace Monroe. Marcus Ott, Trent Wyss, and Owen Douglas pitched for the Cheesemakers with Ott pitching three innings and allowing no runs with seven strikeouts. The Cheesemakers are 1-0 in the Valley Division of the Rock Valley conference and 5-3 overall. The Cheesemakers had a scheduled RVC game against the Whippets again on May 1, and were to travel to Big Foot for a doubleheader May 2.


Barneveld Gets 8-7 Win Over Pecatonica

The Barneveld Golden Eagles used a base hit, a sacrifice, three walks, and a passed ball to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to overtake the Pecatonica Vikings, 8-7 in a Six Rivers conference game on April 28 at Blanchardville. The Vikings scored five runs in the first inning and two runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead before Barneveld rallied to win. Senior Levi Krebs was 1x2 with two RBIs and catcher Cooper Schraepfer went 1x3 and drove in a run in the loss for the Vikings. The loss drops the Vikings to 4-4 in the Six Rivers Conference and 6-5 overall.


Pecatonica Vikings Get Early Lead and Beat Argyle-Black Hawk 10-2

The Pecatonica Vikings grabbed an early 3-0 lead and never trailed in beating the Argyle-Black Hawk Warriors 10-2 in Six Rivers baseball April 29 at Argyle. Senior Levi Krebs went 5x5 with a triple and five RBIs to lead the Vikings. Junior Ashton McNett was 1x3 with a double and scored two runs. Senior Drew Hendrickson had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Pitchers Charles Anderson, Cohlman Schlimgen, Marty Anderson, and Krebs held Argyle-Black Hawk scoreless until the seventh inning while striking out 15 batters. Weston Ganshert and Ike Waage scored the only runs for the Orioles in the seventh inning. The win puts Pecatonica at 5-4 in the Six Rivers and 7-5 overall. Argyle-Black Hawk falls to 1-10 in the conference and 1-12 overall. The Vikings were scheduled to play a non-conference game at home against Darlington on May 1. Argyle-Black Hawk was set for a home tilt against Highland on May 2.


Monticello-Albany Stages 9-8 Comeback Win Over Belleville

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions pulled off a big come-from-behind win over Belleville in non-conference baseball on April 28. The Space Stallions erased an early 5-0 deficit and beat Belleville 9-8 by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Monticello-Albany rallied with three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Each team scored a run in the fifth inning to make the score 8-6 in favor of the Space Stallions. In the top of the seventh, the Wildcats tied the game 8-8 with a pair of runs. Monticello-Albany won it with a run in the bottom of the inning. The Space Stallions were led by shortstop Tyler Constantini who was 2x2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. First baseman Tyler Patchen, catcher Nate Stokstad, third baseman Ty Durtschi, and pitcher Cody Pryce each drove in a run. Durtschi pitched the final two inning and got the win in relief. Senior Niles Monroe had a big day for the Wildcats, going 2x4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Monticello-Albany improved to 2-11 overall with the win.


New Glarus Outlasts Belleville 4-2

Junior Landon Stelter went 2x3 with an RBI and a run scored and senior Patrick Alt allowed one earned run over 6 and 2/3 innings to help the New Glarus Glarner Knights earn a 4-2 win over the Belleville Wildcats in a Capitol South game on April 29 at New Glarus. Alt got relief help from freshman Brock Roth who got the final out of the game to get the save. Alt struck out seven and walked just one. Belleville was led by senior catcher Brennan Keyes who went 2x3 and drove in both runs for the Wildcats. Senior Niles Monroe started for Belleville and allowed just two earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. The win puts the Glarner Knights at 3-2 in the Capitol South and 7-4 overall. Belleville dropped to 3-2 in the conference with the loss, and 4-9 overall. Belleville and New Glarus were scheduled to again on May 1 at Belleville.


Belmont Gets 10-Run Win Over Argyle-Black Hawk

Five runs in the first inning and five runs in the fourth inning is what the Belmont Braves used to roll past the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles 12-2 in five innings in Six Rivers Conference baseball on April 28. Belmont pitchers Chase Riechers and Brad Lancaster limited the Orioles to two runs on three hits. Cole Dunlavey, Mikey Helfvogt, and Braylon Bidlingmair got the three hits for Argyle-Black Hawk. Weston Ganshert and Ike Waage scored runs for the Orioles. The Orioles saw their record drop to 1-10 in the Six Rivers Conference and 1-12 overall. The Orioles were scheduled for another Six Rivers game on May 2 at home against the Highland Cardinals.


Big First Inning Helps Edgerton Hold Off Brodhead-Juda

Catcher Gabe Bockhop hit a home run and drove in two runs, but it wasn’t enough to offset a six-run first inning by Edgerton in an 11-9 win over the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals in Rock Valley Conference-Rock Division baseball at Brodhead on April 29. The Crimson Tide led 7-1 in the third inning only to see the Cardinals charge back with two runs in the third, and three in the fourth to pull to within a run at 7-6. But, Edgerton pulled away with a four-run fifth inning to go up 11-6 before the Cardinals scored three times to make the final 11-9. Center fielder David Masloske went 3x4 with an RBI and scored four runs. Right fielder Clayton Elliott had three hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs. Brodhead-Juda dropped to 1-2 in the RVC-Rock and 6-5 overall. The Cardinals and the Crimson Tide squared off again on May 1 at Edgerton.
