Monroe hangs on at Stoughton; Argyle wins twice

STOUGHTON — The Cheesemakers scored three runs in the second inning and five in the third inning to get themselves to an 8-3 lead. But the host Vikings scored four in the fifth, and kept pressure on Monroe before the Cheesemakers closed out the 10-8 conference win April 9.

Olivia Bobak got the win on the mound, striking out nine and allowing 10 hits, four walks and two hit batters. Seven of the eight runs against her were earned.

At the plate, Bobak smoked a lead-off home run on the first pitch she saw in the third inning.

Hailey Betthauser, Grace Tostrud, Lizzie Snider and Sloane Ambrose each had two hits for Monroe. Sara Prien had a double and three RBIs.


Pecatonica 17, Monticello 7

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings had just two hits but took advantage of 16 walks to score a Six Rivers East Conference win April 9.

Miah Brokopp and Harley Disch each pitched for Monticello, allowing nine unearned runs to cross the plate. 

Katelyn Eyler was 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored for Monticello. Kenna Pfeuti had a walk and a double.

Monticello jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first, but a six-run second inning for Pecatonica made it 6-2. The Ponies added three runs in the third to make it a one-run game, but the Vikings scored another four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to close the door.

Lexi McSherry got the win on the mound, pitching all six innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits and nine walks.


Argyle 14, Pecatonica 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — Grace Ganshert allowed just one hit and two walks in five innings while striking out nine to lead the Orioles to victory April 8.

At the dish, the Orioles got hot in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the second and third innings and exploding for seven in the top of the fourth.

Kirsten Ostby was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs, while Jadyn Saalsaa was 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI for Argyle. Tori Lantz and Natalie Romdenne each had two hits for the Orioles. Lants hit a triple, and both of Romdenne’s shots were doubles. Saalsaa also doubled.

Abbey Loomis had Pecatonica’s lone hit. McSherry pitched all five innings, but allowed just five earned runs on 12 hits and two walks. She struck out two.


Argyle 5, Barneveld 0

BARNEVELD — Ostby had two hits and Ganshert was electric on the mound, allowing just five hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Romdenne, Ostby and Alysabeth Lantz all doubled.

Argyle took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third and made it 2-0 in the sixth. A three-run seventh inning gave Ganshert a cushion on the hill that she ended up not needing.


Juda-Albany 20, Monticello 5

MONTICELLO — The Panthers batted around the order in each of the first two innings to stake themselves to a comfortable lead April 8.

Juda-Albany scored six runs in the top of the first and seven more in the second. Monticello’s first run came in the bottom of the third. The Ponies scored four runs in the fourth.

The Ponies walked nine times in the game. They also had baserunners on a hit by pitch and three singles.

Juda-Albany had 14 hits and 16 walks at the plate. The bottom of the order was especially pivotal, with the 7-8-9 hitters of Karlee Kesler, Brianna Dahl and Cindy Detra combining to go 8 for 10 with four walks, a hit by pitch and scoring 10 runs. Emileigh Dallman and Kirsten Oliver also had a pair of hits for the Panthers.

Eyler, Disch and Brokopp pitched for Monticello. Dallman threw for Juda-Albany.


Southwestern 11, Darlington 7

HAZEL GREEN — Holly Ray had three hits and Lucy Heinberg had two for the Redbirds.

Southwestern led 2-1 after the first and 5-3 after the third. A three-run fourth inning gave the Wildcats some breathing room, but Darlington scored four runs in the top of the fifth to make it an 8-7 game.

Alyssa Tuescher pitched for the Redbirds, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits and seven walks while striking out five. Tuescher also tripled at the plate, while Ray hit three doubles and scored two runs.

In other area scores, Juda-Albany defeated Black Hawk April 9 in an 8-7 walkoff.
