Cheesemakers Handle Trojans, Clinch Co-Conference Title
MONROE — Senior Kaegann Paulson pitched six solid innings and allowed just four hits and one run as the Monroe Cheesemakers topped the East Troy Trojans 5-1 in Rock Valley Conference, Valley Division softball on Monday, May 19. Paulson walked four and struck out nine. Paulson also went 3x4 at the plate and scored three runs. Senior Brinley Roidt went 2x4 with a double and an RBI. Second baseman Olivia Feller was 1x4 with two RBIs and a run scored. The Cheesemakers (19-6, 12-2 RVC-Valley) have one game remaining in the regular season with Monroe scheduled to host a nonconference game Thursday, May 22. Monroe will host a Division 2 Regional Semifinal on Tuesday, May 27.
Six-Run 6th Helps Monticello-New Glarus Put Away Benton-Shullsburg
MONTICELLO — Leading 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Monticello-New Glarus Ponies scored six runs to seal a 14-7 win over Benton-Shullsburg in Six Rivers Conference softball on Monday, May 19. Freshman Heidi Olson went 3x5 with two doubles, drove in three runs, and scored a run, while catcher Dalana Trumpy and left fielder Brooke Ryan drove in two runs each. Trumpy hit a double and freshman Malorie Miller pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on seven hits to pick up the win. The Ponies (15-6, 12-5 Six Rivers Conference) have a make-up game at Pecatonica remaining on their regular season schedule. They were scheduled to host Southwestern in a Division 5 Regional Quarterfinal on Thursday, May 22.
Prochaska Gets Only Hits For Belleville In 5-1 Loss To Delavan-Darien
DELAVAN — Sophomore Bryn Prochaska got three hits and an RBI, but that was all the offense the Belleville Wildcats could come up with in a 5-1 loss to the Delavan-Darien Comets in nonconference softball on Monday, May 19. Prochaska drove in senior Ava Benash with the Wildcats only run in the first inning. Prochaska also had a double and a triple. The rest of the Wildcats line-up struck out 16 times. Belleville (3-14, 1-7 Capitol South) closed out their regular season and began the postseason with a road game at Columbus in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 22.
Fennimore Pitcher Throws Perfect Game Against Darlington
DARLINGTON — Fennimore starting pitcher Kayahna Furrer threw a five inning perfect game in a 20-0 win over the Darlington Redbirds in SWAL conference softball action on May 19 at Darlington. Not only did Furrer retire all 15 batters she faced in order, she also went 4x5 with a home run and eight RBIs in the lopsided win for Fennimore. The Golden Eagles improved to 9-5 in the SWAL, 17-6 overall. The Darlington Redbirds completed their regular season and fell to 2-12 in the SWAL and 2-18 overall with the loss. Darlington is a No. 8 seed in the Division 4 regional and faces No. 9 seed Parkview at home on May 22.
