Monroe gobbles up Kenosha Christian Life

BELOIT — Preparing for Thanksgiving, Monroe traveled to South Beloit for the first day of its holiday tournament, picking up a 30-22 win over Kenosha Christian Life. The Cheesemakers built up a 21-7 lead at halftime thanks to its press.

Six different players scored, led by Lauryn Quinn and Brinley Roidt with six points each. 

Monroe plays two more games in the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 30, the first against South Beloit at 12 p.m.


BLACK HAWK 75, PARKVIEW 34

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors shot 50% from the field and over 40% from 3-point range in their home opener against the Vikings on Nov. 26. Defensively, Black Hawk scored 30 points off 20 turnovers.

Maddy Lange opened her senior season with a bang, recording a double-double and was just one deflection away from a triple-double. She scored 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. In addition to nine deflections, Lange had six steals. Maddy Place also scored in double figures with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Hailey Wellnitz recorded a team-high 13 rebounds. 


BARNEVELD 43, DARLINGTON 34;

LANCASTER, DARLINGTON 30

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds suffered a pair of losses at home, dropping to 1-3 on the season.

Darlington scored just eight points in the first half against Barneveld on Nov. 25, putting themselves in too large of a hole to dig themselves out of. The Redbirds turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 17 points for the Eagles.

Maddie Gratz led the team with 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. She was one rebound shy of a double-double. 

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, Darlington made just 12 field goals compared to Lancaster’s 18. The biggest difference came from beyond the arc, where the Flying Arrows made seven 3-pointers to the Redbirds’ three.

Despite the loss, Gratz recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Catie Hartwig also finished in double figures with 10 points. 


PLATTEVILLE 58, NEW GLARUS 53

PLATTEVILLE — The Knights’ comeback effort fell just short against the Hillmen in a nonconference game Nov. 26. New Glarus trailed at halftime 29-22 but outscored Platteville 31-29 in the second half.

Three players scored in double figures for NG, led by Ellie Brenkman and Elle Lancaster with 11 points each. Eve MacLean chipped in another 10.


TURNER 54, BRODHEAD 51

BELOIT — A last-second 3-pointer Kennedy Crall was all Turner needed to defeat Brodhead in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game Nov. 26. The Cardinals led most of the game before the Trojans’ comeback.
