Cheesemakers Beat Platteville 11-1

The Monroe Cheesemakers got a brilliant pitching performance from junior Kaegann Paulson in an 11-1 win over the Platteville Hillmen in non-conference softball at Platteville on April 14. Paulson went the distance and allowed just one hit and one run. She struck out seven and walked two. Paulson also got a hit and scored two runs. Senior Sophie Golembiewski was 2x4 with three RBIs and scored two runs. Senior Olivia Feller went 2x5 with a triple and two RBIs. Senior catcher Brinley Roidt delivered a base hit, scored a run, and got an RBI. Sophomore Paizley Kundert had a double and a run scored. With win, the Cheesemakers improved to 8-2 overall. Monroe played another non-conference game against Verona on April 17.


Monticello-New Glarus Tops Argyle-Black Hawk 6-3

Junior shortstop Molly Olson got two hits, scored a run, and drove in a run to help Monticello-New Glarus earn a 6-3 win over Argyle-Black Hawk in a Six Rivers Conference game on April 14. Freshman starting pitcher Heidi Olson pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits for the Ponies. Heidi Olson struck out 13 and walked one. At the plate, Heidi Olson had two RBIs to lead the Ponies. First baseman Mallory Miller and senior centerfielder Karlee Wilkins each had a pair of hits for Monticello-New Glarus. Argyle-Black Hawk was led by senior centerfielder Mya McNett and sophomore left fielder Brianna Wilhelmson with each tallying one hit, an RBI and a run scored. 


Jubany Takes Advantage Of MNG Mistakes

Juda-Albany beat Monticello-New Glarus 12-3 on April 15. The Ponies committed six errors and struggled against “Jubany” starting pitcher Emerson Briggs, who allowed just two hits and a walk in seven innings. All three runs against her were unearned. Heidi Olson took the loss for MNG, allowing seven runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks. Malorie Miller tossed three innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk. Jubany scored three runs in the first, another in the third and then four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. MNG (4-3, 2-3 Six Rivers) scored all three runs in the bottom of the sixth.


Brodhead Cardinals Rally In 7th Against Turner Falls Short

The Brodhead Cardinals fell behind 3-0 and tried to rally in the seventh inning, but the rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Turner Trojans in Rock Valley conference-Rock Division action on April 15 at Beloit. 

The Trojans got to Brodhead starting pitcher Ava Risum with a pair of runs in the first inning. The scored stayed at 2-0 until the fifth inning when Turner scored what proved to be the deciding run to make the score 3-0 in favor of Turner. Senior Tatum Ceslock drove in a run in the seventh with a base hit, but Turner starting pitcher Olyvia Piranio would not allow the Cardinals to tie the score. 

Junior Karli Krumwiede, freshman Mady Henning, and Kennedy Zimmerman also had base hits for the Cardinals. Risum took the loss as she pitched six innings, and gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits. She struck out 12 and walked two.

The Cardinals (3-2, 2-2 RVC-Rock) hosted Clinton on April 17 and Big Foot on April 18 in RVC-Rock Division action.


Redbirds Get First Win Of The Season, 20-0 Over Boscobel

The Darlington Redbirds got their first win of the season, 20-0 in five innings over Boscobel in SWAL conference softball on April 14 at Darlington. The Redbirds crushed the ball in the first inning by scoring 12 runs. Senior Ella Winslow hit a home run and a triple and went 2x3 with three RBIs. Also hitting triples were Isabelle Winkers and Raynie Norgard. Starting pitcher Sophie Weigel and third baseman Alivia Crosby drove in three runs each and Norgard was 3x3 with two RBIs and scored four times. Wiegel pitched all five innings and allowed just one hit. She struck out seven and walked none. The Redbirds (1-7, 1-3 SWAL) faced Southwestern in another SWAL Conference game on April 17 at Hazel Green.


Barneveld Stops Argyle-Black Hawk 10-5

The Barneveld Golden Eagles scored all of their 10 runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings on their way to a 10-5 win over the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles in Six Rivers Conference softball on April 15 at Barneveld. Senior Mya McNett had two hits, both doubles, two RBIs, and scored a run for the Orioles. She also pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief. Senior shortstop Maddy Lange was 1x4 with a double, an RBI, and scored a run. Senior catcher Ava Wiegel contributed with two hits and an RBI. The Orioles (0-6, 0-4 Six Rivers) played at River Ridge on April 17.


Belleville Wildcats Lose Two Games

The Belleville Wildcats lost a pair of non-conference games to begin the week. The Wildcats lost to Edgerton, 10-8 on April 14, then lost to Cambridge, 15-5 on April 15. In the Monday game, sophomore Brynn Prochaska homered and scored two runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Edgerton Crimson Tide beat the Wildcats 10-8. Edgerton scored four runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind and win. Sophomore Anna Alexander drove in two runs and scored two runs while sophomore Korynn Potter got a hit, an RBI, and scored a run in the loss. Story Fossum pitched five innings and racked up 11 strikeouts for Belleville.

In the game on Tuesday, the Cambridge Blue Jays got all the runs they needed by putting up 10 runs in the second inning on their way to a 15-5 win over the Wildcats. Alexander was the only player for Belleville with a multi-hit game as she tallied two hits and a stolen base. Prochaska, Fossum, and Zoey Pfile got the only other hits for the Wildcats. Belleville (1-5, 0-2 Capitol) played a Capitol South conference game at Wisconsin Heights on April 17.


Pecatonica Loses To Barneveld 7-0, Beats Benton-Shullsburg 7-2

Barneveld junior Hannah Esch pitched a one-hitter in leading the Golden Eagles to a 7-0 win over the Pecatonica Vikings in Six Rivers conference softball on April 14. Esch struck out nine and walked three in the win. Center fielder Mikaela Gross got the only hit for Pecatonica. The Vikings committed four errors which led to four unearned runs. Senior Diana Hendrickson started for Pec and allowed three earned runs in seven innings. Hendrickson walked one and struck out four. 

On April 15, the Vikings used a 5-run fifth inning to grab a 7-2 win over Benton-Shullsburg in a Six Rivers conference game at Blanchardville. Gross had two RBIs and Gretta Schraepfer hit a triple for the Vikings. Hendrickson and left fielder Aleah Harris each had a double as the Vikings evened their conference record to 2-2. Hendrickson went the distance for Pecatonica and allowed two runs on three hits. Hendrickson had nine strikeouts and three walks. Pecatonica (2-5 overall) traveled to Highland for a Six Rivers conference game on April 17.
