EDGERTON — The Cheesemakers are running out of opportunities to catch up to being in playoff contention. In Week 4, Monroe lost to Edgerton 28-24 in a heartbreaker. It was the fifth straight loss for the Cheesemakers dating back to last season.

Monroe went into halftime leading 10-6, and maintained a 17-14 lead entering the fourth quarter. However, the Crimson Tide scored two touchdowns in the final frame, while the Cheesemakers could only muster one TD.

Edgerton had 137 passing yards and 138 rushing yards. Monroe’s statistics were unavailable by press time.

Monroe will look to get off the goose egg this Friday at home against Whitewater (1-3).

Black Hawk-Warren 74, Boscobel 0

WARREN — Everything for third-ranked Black Hawk-Warren (4-0) was flaming hot on Saturday, Sept. 13. With temperatures hovering over 90 degrees, the Warriors decimated undermanned Boscobel 74-0. It was the most points Boscobel had given up in a single game in program history, eclipsing the previous mark of 73 points that stood for  100 years (1925 vs. Lancaster).

The Warriors kept the Bulldogs to negative offensive yards in the game (-23 total), thanks in large part to -37 rushing yards. Meanwhile, BHW accumulated 423 yards of offense, four interceptions on defense — one of which returned for a score — and a punt return for a score.

QB Beau Podnar completed 3 of 4 passes for 85 yards and two TDs to Bryce VanRaalte (2 rec, 83 yds). Nine different Warriors carried the ball, with Dax Paquin (5 car, 117 yds), Jacob Woodruff (7 car, 106 yds) and Beau Janecke (2 car, 52 yds) leading the way. Ty Kobbervig, Janecke and Podnar each had a touchdown run, while Woodruff and Paquin each had two rushing scores. Kobbervig had a 27-yard Pick-6 and Joe Ketchpaw returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown.

The Warriors scored 28 points in the first quarter, 14 more in the second to make it 42-0 at halftime. The reserves outscored Boscobel 32-0 in the second half.

The JV game set for Sept. 15 was canceled, as the JV squads saw plenty of snaps in the varsity game, and Boscobel would need as many fresh bodies for the Bulldogs’ Week 5 game against top-ranked Potosi-Cassville.

In Week 5, BHW hosts Iowa-Grant (2-2) at noon on Saturday, Sept. 20.
