MONROE — A 38-28 advantage in the second half by the Parkview Vikings was a big difference as the Vikings downed the Lady Cheesemakers 60-48 in nonconference girls basketball on Monday, Dec. 8.
Parkview took an early eight-point lead but Monroe rallied to take an 18-16 advantage with just over four minutes to play in the first half. The Vikings grabbed a 22-20 lead at halftime behind nine points by sophomore Jemma Wilke.
Parkview was able to hang on to a one-point lead over the first five minutes of the second half, then expanded the lead to 11 points. A basket by junior Braylee Friedrich got the Lady Cheesemakers to within six points with around nine minutes to play, but Monroe could not get any closer.
Wilke and senior Katie Treinen each scored 13 points to lead the Vikings. Friedrich scored 22 points and senior Alexis Gertsch put up 14 points to lead the Lady Cheesemakers.
Monroe (0-3, 0-2) is scheduled to play at Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 12 in Rock Valley Conference, Valley Division action before traveling to Benton to face the Zephyrs in a make-up game on Monday, Dec. 15.
Platteville 62, Darlington 55
DARLINGTON — The Darlington Redbirds have played three games this season and are still searching for their first win. The Redbirds lost to the undefeated Platteville Hillmen 62-55 on Monday, Dec. 8 in nonconference girls basketball action.
Senior Maddie Gratz had a great game for the Redbirds, getting a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Sadie Goebel had 11 points and seven assists. Junior Lilly Ritchie scored seven points for Darlington.
The Redbirds (0-3, 0-1) had a SWAL conference game scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11 at Fennimore.
Shullsburg 68, Black Hawk 28
SHULLSBURG — The Shullsburg Miners blasted off to a 26-5 halftime lead on their way to a 68-28 rout of the Black Hawk Warriors in nonconference girls basketball on Monday, Dec. 8.
The Lady Miners shot a blistering 59% for the game including 7-13 from three point range (54%) and grabbed 36 rebounds in the win. Sophomore Addy Woodworth scored 18 points to lead the Miners.
After winning their first three games of the season, Black Hawk has lost three straight. The Warriors (3-3, 0-3) were scheduled to host Argyle-Pecatonica in Six Rivers East Conference action on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Brodhead 54, Evansville 44
EVANSVILLE — The Brodhead Cardinals turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 54-44 win over the Evansville Blue Devils in Rock Valley Conference, Rock Division girls basketball on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The Cardinals trailed at halftime, 21-20, but outscored the Blue Devils 32-22 in the second half. Senior Alecia Dahl had a double-double, scoring 19 points, including a perfect 9-9 at the free throw line, along with 10 rebounds. Overall, Brodhead had a successful night at the free throw line where they made 11 of 15 free throws. Senior Gretchen Kammerer added eight points and two assists. Brooklyn Maves led Evansville with 23 points.
Brodhead (4-1, 2-1) had the Turner Trojans on their schedule for an RVC-Rock road game on Friday, Dec. 12.
