MONROE — Monona Grove took advantage of six Monroe errors en route to an 8-1 win over the Cheesemakers April 15 at Twining Park in a Badger Conference matchup.

The Silver Eagles struck first in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs. Monroe got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but that was it for the Cheesemakers. MG added two more runs in the fourth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh for insurance.

Sloane Ambrose had two of Monroe’s three hits in the game, with Karis Paulson collecting the other. The Cheesemakers walked five times and struck out 10.

Ambrose tossed the first four innings on the mound, giving up six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Katrina Sathoff tossed two innings in relief, striking out one while allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk. Freshman Sophie Golembiewski allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk in the seventh.

Brodhead 7, Jefferson 5

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals picked up a major Rock Valley win April 15, knocking off defending conference champion Jefferson.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning, and Jefferson added another run in the third. Brodhead responded with a second two-run inning to that point, and then scored thrice in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles inched closer with two runs in the fifth, the Brodhead starting pitcher McKenna Young locked down in the furious wind, cold and snow flurries. Young finished with 11 strikeouts, and allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks.

At the plate, Ava Risum had a homer, a single, a hit-by-pitch, scored twice and drove in two RBIs for Brodhead. Her home run came leading off the third and after fouling off four straight pitches.

Taetum Hoesly doubled, scored twice, walked and drove in a run. Cora Hafen added a hit, a walk and a run.
