The lead grew to 25 points on Gerber-Reamer’s field goal to make it 35-10 with around six minutes left in the half. Whitewater made a bit of a run late in the first half to trim the lead to 17 at halftime at 47-30.
The Cheese started out the second half on a 17-6 run to take a 64-36 lead. Sophomore Chase Huschitt scored the final points of the game to give the Cheesemakers a 91-53 win.
Cheesemakers coach Brian Bassett liked the ball movement the Cheesemakers put on display throughout the game.
“I was super-impressed. This is the best they’ve done at driving and kicking out to wide-open shooters,” said Bassett.
The fact that Marcus Ott led the Cheesemakers with 23 points was not a surprise to Bassett.
“We see that in practice all the time. He’s been shooting the ball really well in practice. That’s what he’s been doing all week,” Bassett said.
Monroe (7-3, 3-1 RVC-Valley) was set to play a nonconference game at Mount Horeb on Monday, Jan. 12.
