Monroe dominates; Ponies crushed by Belleville 70-29

MCFARLAND — The Cheesemakers used a 39-9 first-half burst to put away the Spartans (5-4) in a nonconference game Dec. 18.

Nine of the 11 Cheesemakers on the roster scored in the game, with Sydney Hilliard’s 14 points and 11 rebounds pacing Monroe. Megan Benzschawel had 12 points and nine boards, Emily Benzschawel finished with eight points and Grace Mathiason added six points for the Cheesemakers. 

Monroe (6-3) came away with 46 rebounds in the game and had 13 steals and four blocks. The Cheesemakers were just 8 of 17 from the free throw line and 2 of 10 from deep, but finished 22 of 57 from the field.

McFarland, formerly in the Badger Conference and now a member of the Rock Valley, had nine players score, but none more than Ashley East’s seven.

Albany 53, Johnson Creek 37

ALBANY — The Comets overcame a halftime deficit to dominate Johnson Creek in a nonconference win Dec. 17.

Albany (7-3) went into the break trailing 27-21, but the Comets took care of business in the second half, outscoring the visitors 32-10.

Libby Beck had 15 points to lead Albany. Emileigh Dallman and Kaiya Zurfluh each had 11. Lily Brewer didn’t score in any of her four shots from the field but finished with nine rebounds and five assists. Brianna Dahl was just 2-for-13 from the field but had four steals, four rebounds and four assists.

The Comets outrebounded Johnson Creek 35-23, but lost the turnover battle 23-18. Albany was 13 of 20 from the charity stripe, however, Johnson Creek was 8 of 22.

Rylie Thomas led Johnson Creek (1-7) with 13 points.

In other action, Belleville defeated Monticello 70-29 in a nonconference game Dec. 17.
