EAST TROY — Playing their final game of the season and with no playoffs to look forward to, the Monroe Cheesemakers weren’t about to mail it in against the East Troy Trojans. Instead, the Cheesemakers put up a season-high in points by whipping the Trojans 49-26 on Friday Oct. 17.
The game got off to a great start for the Cheesemakers as the Trojans fumble the opening kickoff and Monroe recovered. Tristan Anderson scored moments later and Brock Brandli made the extra point to give the Cheese a 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Anderson scored again on a 3-yard touchdown run and Brandli’s extra point made it 14-0. The Trojans got a touchdown with about two minutes left in the first quarter to trim the Cheesemakers’ lead to 14-7.
The Trojans tied the game at 14-14 in the second quarter, but Kingston McNett put the Cheese out in front for good with a touchdown with about four minutes to play before halftime. Brandli’s extra point gave Monroe a 21-14 halftime lead.
Midway through the 3rd quarter, Anderson got his third touchdown of the night on a one-yard run. Brandli made the extra point to give the Cheesemakers a two-score lead at 28-14. Noah Spotts joined the scoring spree for Monroe with a 10-yard sprint to the end zone and Brandli made the extra point to give the Cheese a 35-14 lead.
East Troy scored a touchdown early in the 4th quarter to get to within 35-20, but Spotts scored again, this time on a five yard run and Brandli’s extra point put the Cheesemakers in control at 42-20. After the Trojans scored to make it 42-26, McNett got his second touchdown with a five yard run. Brandli’s made it a 7-7 night on extra points and the Cheesemakers had their first win on the road, 49-26.
The Cheesemakers dominated with their ground game as Anderson carried the ball 26 times for 200 yards. Spotts had 17 carries for 119 yards and McNett produced 99 yards on 11 carries.
The win allowed the Cheesemakers to jump ahead of the Trojans in the final Rock Valley Conference, Valley Division standings at 2-5, good for 6th place. Overall, the Cheesemakers finished 2-7.
It was also the final game for Monroe in the Rock Valley Conference. Next year, Monroe will re-join the Badger Conference as part of the Badger Small. Also next year, Monroe will have a new home venue as they will play their home games at Badger State Ethanol Stadium.
River Ridge 54, Pec-Argyle 12
The Timberwolves scored in every quarter and ran past the Vikings 54-12 in Six Rivers Conference football on Friday Oct. 17. Quarterback Martin Anderson passed for 184 yards and a touchdown while Ashton McNett rushed for a touchdown and Brock Erickson caught five passes for 79 yards. The Vikings end the season 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the Six Rivers conference.
Lourdes Acad. 38, Parkview-Albany 0
The Knights completed an undefeated regular season at 9-0 with a 38-0 win over the Parkview-Albany Vikings in Trailways Conference football on Friday Oct. 17. For the Vikings, it was their fourth straight loss and the second time they have been shut out in those four weeks. Parkview-Albany dropped to 2-7 overall and closed the season 2-7 in the Trailways Conference.
Platteville 42, Brodhead-Juda 22
The Hillmen jumped out to a 42-6 halftime lead and rolled to a 42-22 win over the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals in SWC action on Friday. For the Cardinals, it was their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. Brodhead-Juda finishes the season 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.
