SAUK CITY — Monroe girls finished second and the boys were third at the Sauk Prairie Relays April 18.
The Monroe girls finished with 100 team points, just three off the pace of Middleton Red.
“Great team effort and coming up only three points short against perennial Big Eight powerhouse was a great accomplishment,” Monroe coach Eric Jubeck said.
The Lady Cheesemakers won the long jump, with Cassi Gersbach, Faith Koester and Grace Mathiason scoring the win. Monroe also won the discus (Chloe Bunker, Emma Sanders, Riley Hartwig) and the hurdle shuttle (Gersbach, Lexi Diehl, Bri Seagreaves).
Monroe finished second in the high jump, the 800-meter medley relay, the 400-meter relay and the distance medley relay.
“Our field events carried us once again, especially our throws with winning both and shotput winning by nearly 13-feet. The hurdle victory was also impressive, as winning by almost 5 seconds shows their level of readiness to compete,” Jubeck said.
On the boys side, Middleton Red won the meet with a score of 117, while Burlington (90) was second and Monroe (88.5) third.
The Cheesemakers were champs in the hurdle shuttle (Trevor Rodebaugh, Patrick Rielly, Jason Carpenter) and then 3,200-meter relay (Kyle Legler, Dylan Fahrney, Jake Brower, Alvin Buholzer). Monroe scored second-place finishes in the 800-medley relay, the 1,600-relay and the 800-relay.
